World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8 May Feature an Iconic Weapon and Landmark

World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8 May Feature an Iconic Weapon and Landmark

Summary

  • WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8 may include a quest to purify the Ashbringer on Mount Hyjal.
  • The Scarlet Enclave raid boss list for Phase 8 includes iconic characters like Balnazzar and Lillian Voss.
  • Mount Hyjal, previously inaccessible in Vanilla WoW, may play a significant role in Season of Discovery.

Evidence suggests World of Warcraft Classic players might visit Mount Hyjal during a quest to purify the Ashbringer in Season of Discovery Phase 8. Though fans didn’t get to visit Mount Hyjal until Cataclysm in retail World of Warcraft, and couldn’t collect the Ashbringer until Legion, Season of Discovery players might be able to do both very soon.

Recently, World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery confirmed Phase 8 was in development, and that it hopes to continue well beyond the update with all sorts of new surprises and content. That said, beyond the rumored Scarlet Enclave raid, little was known about what might be coming next in Season of Discovery.

World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 Has a Season of Discovery Easter Egg

An Easter egg from World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery appears in Undermine, the new zone from The War Within Patch 11.1, Undermine(d).

However, now that Phase 8 is on the WoW Classic Public Test Realm, fans have uncovered something big on the horizon for the experimental servers. Caldoran, an inquisitor of the Scarlet Crusade who aids players in Naxxramas from WoW Classic SoD Phase 7, appears near the new Scarlet Enclave raid, but is now bereft of the corrupted Ashbringer he wielded in the raid. Spells and items datamined from the PTR suggest heroes can obtain the Ashbringer and purify it in the Well of Eternity, located on Mount Hyjal. Though the zone itself was not accessible in Vanilla, players have also discovered that the barricades preventing them from accessing Hyjal are gone, though the region is full of dangerous hazards. A new fast travel system between the new region and Winterspring fueled by Thisalee Crow, and a massive, untargetable slime monster, likewise suggest the zone will play a role in Phase 8, possibly as part of a quest to purify the Ashbringer. WoW content creator KaghoeGaming compiled some of these discoveries together and shared them in a short video on his YouTube channel.

Mount Hyjal and The Ashbringer in WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8

Mount Hyjal is the location of the World Tree, Nordrassil, and the second Well of Eternity where the demon lord Archimonde was killed in Warcraft 3. It was added as a raid in The Burning Crusade and as a zone in Cataclysm, but it was originally planned to appear in Vanilla World of Warcraft. Likewise, Thisalee Crow is a Druid NPC who first appeared in the Mount Hyjal zone. Meanwhile, the Ashbringer was only obtainable in its corrupted form in Vanilla World of Warcraft, with its uncorrupted counterpart finally coming as a Paladin Artifact in Legion. Needless to say, this is the first time either of these iconic parts of the lore has been added to Classic WoW.

Were this not exciting enough, World of Warcraft content creator MrGM also discovered the boss list for the Scarlet Enclave raid. The Dreadlord Balnazaar returns alongside the living version of Lilian Voss – one of the new leaders of the Forsaken since WoW: Dragonflight – a red dragon named Solistrasza, and even Scarlet Inqusitor Caldoran himself.

There are bound to be even more surprises in World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery beyond these. Phase 8 does not currently have a release date, but fans can expect World of Warcraft to share one before long.
