What Would an Ada Wong Game Look Like?

Over the years, Resident Evil has offered a blend of survival horror and action, which takes place in a world that is steeped in larger-than-life conspiracies. Resident Evil continues to be one of the most popular series in gaming, and it has a roster of great characters to partially thank for its success. Protagonists like Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy are, perhaps, the most iconic of those characters, but one of the franchise’s most underrated characters is Ada Wong.

A super spy with her own set of morals, Ada harbors no true allegiances. As a free agent, she chooses who she sides with when she wants, making her a compelling, and morally gray, character. Most characters throughout the Resident Evil franchise are framed with fairly clear-cut alignments, but Ada’s moral ambiguity has always made her interesting. If Capcom’s zombie franchise ever wanted to shake up the formula, putting Ada Wong in the spotlight could be a fun approach.

A Resident Evil Story Led By Ada Wong Could Blend Survival Horror Scares With Espionage Thrills

Resident Evil 4’s Remake Offers a Sneak Peek of What is Possible

One of the closest things Resident Evil fans have ever gotten to an Ada Wong-led entry is the Separate Ways DLC for the RE4 remake. Not only does this DLC flesh out Ada’s character, it also contains a fresh set of mechanics that could appear in a full-blown game that was centered around the character:

  • A versatile grappling hook for combat and traversal
  • A blend of combat and puzzles
  • Faster movement

These fresh features would basically be a given in a game that primarily focuses on Ada, but the title could also diverge from standard Resident Evil stories by diving even deeper into the world of espionage. Separate Ways proved Ada Wong’s potential as a lead, and using the character as a way to bring a spy thriller RE game to life could be successful. As of now, there is no official confirmation that Capcom will make such an entry, but the company may be sitting on a deep well of untapped potential.

Ada Wong’s first in-game appearance is in Resident Evil 2.

Bringing Resident Evil’s Conspiracy Side Front and Center

The original iteration of Umbrella may have been disbanded, but Blue Umbrella lives on. Supposedly a new organization with the purpose of countering bioweapons, Blue Umbrella still has the potential to be just as nefarious as its predecessor. The United States-based military company could serve as a strong foundation upon which an espionage-filled Ada Wong narrative could be built.

An Ada Wong game’s story could dive into secretive organizations other than Blue Umbrella, too. Ever since RE7, bioweapon-making crime syndicate The Connections has been one of the franchise’s biggest mysteries. If Blue Umbrella is truly altruistic, then Ada bouncing between that company and The Connections, as she works to gain the upper hand by getting intel on both, would definitely be in line with her character. Ada’s place in the overarching Resident Evil narrative has shown that she can be a turncoat at any moment, which makes a game based around her quite exciting, as it could also introduce choice-based mechanics that could affect the outcome of the story.

A super spy with her own set of morals, Ada harbors no true allegiances.

The Wait For Resident Evil 9 Continues

  • Rumors and leaks have suggested the return of Jill and Leon.
  • Blue Umbrella is claimed to return.
  • The story reportedly wraps up the RE7 and Village storyline.

Right now, any claims regarding RE9 that aren’t directly from Capcom should be taken with a grain of salt. So far, it’s unclear if Ada will make an appearance, but it would be exciting if she played a part in the story. An Ada Wong game may be wishful thinking, but Capcom could be missing a huge opportunity by keeping the character on the sidelines.
