Several Marvel stars are set to return to Avengers: Doomsday. One actor was asked about their potential return and teased about a possible comeback.
This year, Marvel Studios is gearing up for a big comeback after several of its films flopped at the box office in the past years. Captain America: Brave New World received mixed reception from fans, but it performed better than the previous MCU movies before it. Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are also coming up in the next few months and expectations are high. However, among the anticipated MCU tentpoles are the two upcoming Avengers movies – Doomsday and Secret Wars. One MCU star was asked about their potential involvement, but they remained coy about their character’s fate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Tom Hiddleston addressed Loki’s potential comeback in the next Avengers movies, but his response might not necessarily thrilled fans.
Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega sat down for an interview with Collider to promote their upcoming horror comedy thriller Death of a Unicorn. During the interview, Collider’s Editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub asked the Ant-Man star if the Russo brothers, who will be directing the Avengers movies, asked Rudd to “save any date this year?” Apparently, Weintraub wanted to know if Rudd would be joining the Russo brothers’ upcoming MCU film. “As far as the Russos, I have… you know what I mean? They have my number. They know where I’m at,” Rudd responded. Weintraub commented, “Sure” seemingly unconvinced. “And that’s all I can really, I don’t know. I don’t know how to play these,” Rudd added, doubling down on his response. Ortega commented, “Oh, God. They train them for this thing.” Marvel Studios is known for keeping the details of its production a secret. Most actors involved in a project will either deny or not answer when asked, but a few are notorious spoilers, like Spider-Man star Tom Holland.
Weintraub and Ortega didn’t give up on finding an answer whether Ant-Man would be in Avengers: Doomsday. The interviewer said the next Avengers movie would start filming in a month or two. Ortega asked Rudd, “Where would you be in a month?” Weintraub added, “Are you traveling to London anytime soon?” Rudd seemingly teased that he would join the gang, saying, “Isn’t everyone traveling to London soon now in this business?” Ortega was impressed with how Rudd handled the questions about his potential MCU comeback because he remained chill without giving away crucial information. “God, he’s good,” the Wednesday star said. Ortega, for her part, was asked about possibly joining MCU. However, she revealed that she had already done it because she had appeared in Iron Man 3. The young actress said they removed her dialogue in the final scene and she counted that and moved on.
Rudd’s Ant-Man may or may not appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. First, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania introduced Kang (Jonathan Major), the main villain of the Multiverse Saga. Had the said plot pushed through, chances are high that Rudd would be part of the next Avengers movies. However, Marvel decided to move away from that story following Jonathan Major’s controversy. Second, a lot of multiversal heroes are expected to appear in Doomsday, including X-Men and Fantastic Four. Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, could get sideline to focus on Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and other superheroes because his abilities do not match the scale of a final multiverse battle.
However, Rudd’s Ant-Man is still an active Avenger, so his involvement in Doomsday and Secret Wars is plausible. He could still play a significant role in the storyline. Also, Scott provides comic relief and a relatable human perspective to the audience, much like in his role in Endgame. So, hopefully, he will join the next Avengers movies. It’s always nice to see familiar faces in MCU films.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
