MH Wilds Blangonga Guide – Location, Drops, and Weaknesses

MH Wilds Blangonga Guide - Location, Drops, and Weaknesses

In Monster Hunter Wilds, several monsters are not available (and will not spawn) until you reach certain milestones in the campaign. Blangonga is one of these monsters. Like an enormous baboon, Blangonga command smaller Blango and can attack rapidly across a surprisingly wide area, making the fight particularly dangerous for ranged weapon users.

Monster Hunter Wilds Beat Blangonga Guide MH Wilds Location

Blangonga can only be found in one location in Monster Hunter Wilds: the Iceshard Cliffs region. You will unlock the Iceshard Cliffs after completing Chapter 2-3: Hopes of Home. This main story mission brings players face-to-face with a Hirabami and Nercylla before the Cliffs locale becomes available to explore.

Blangonga can appear in any type of weather conditions at any type of day. The Blangonga is also a primary target in several main and side quests:

  • Chapter 5-2: A World Turned Upside Down
  • Echoing from the Cliffs (Assignment)

  • What We Protect (Side Mission)

Large, white fanged beasts that rule over other Blango, attacking intruders as a pack.

Its muscularity and mobility allows it to strike swiftly, even on fresh snow, and pounce from long distances—so hunters with long-range weapons still need to stay on guard.

MH Wilds Blangonga Weaknesses & Resistances

Though the Blangonga is not as scary or as large as some monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, Blangonga weaknesses are few. That’s because the monster is resistant to all Ice and Dragon damage on all of its body parts, and is not particularly weak to any other type of elemental damage (except Fire damage on its head and torso regions).

In general, Fire, Thunder, and melee damage types are the best to use against a Blangonga.

To beat Yian Kut-Ku, Monster Hunter Wilds players must keep an eye out for its fireball attacks, particularly those fired during its charge move.

However, the Blangonga is also weak to various status effects, notably Sleep, Stun, Exhaust, and Paralysis. It’s also susceptible to Flash Pods and both Trap types. Bring alone weapons that can inflict status effects, and plenty of Flash Pods and Traps, to create windows of attack opportunity against this rampaging beast.

MH Wilds Blangonga Weak Spots & Breakable Parts

Monster Hunter Wilds Beat Blangonga Guide MH Wilds Breakable Parts

The Blangonga’s head and torso are its two weakest spots. On most monsters, hitting the head is a hard ask, and monster torsos tend to be heavily armored. But these two Blangonga weak spots are relatively easy to hit.

Though its rear is not breakable, it is particularly weak to all attack types (except Ice and Dragon). If you’re having trouble dealing damage against a Blangonga, aim for its baboon-like bum to deal significantly more damage than you would to its other body parts.

The Blangonga’s tail can be broken, and its head can be broken twice – including its tusks. Blangonga are essentially the Alphas of the much smaller Blango, and you’ll often have to face both this monster and its pack at the same time. But if you break its tusks, it will have a harder time controlling the nearby Blango, making them significantly less of a problem to deal with.

Blangonga Attacks To Watch Out For

The Blangonga isn’t a big monster, but it is a fast one that can catch you by surprise with some of its moves. Notably, melee and ranged players will both find this boss’ moveset tough to avoid as it darts around the environment and leaps to your location.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Rathalos returns with a vengeance and an all-new moveset that will challenge even the most experience MH veterans.

In general, try to stick to the monster’s side as a melee player, which should help you avoid its frontal ice smash attack and its rear kicks. Blangonga will sometimes swipe at you from either side, but these attacks can be avoided simply by rolling behind the monster before it swings.

If the Blangonga digs its hands into the ground in front of it, it will launch ice upwards soon after. This causes damage when it lifts the ice, and the ice itself can be launched as a projectile. Dodge to the side to avoid this attack entirely.

As a melee weapon user, try to anticipate when the monster will use its ice breath attack. When a Blangonga initiates its ice breath attack, it will be vulnerable for a good few seconds, during which time you can set up a Hunting Horn melody, get a Full Release Slash with a Switch Axe off, or otherwise connect with a powerful, long-windup move.

As a ranged weapon user, beating a Blangonga comes down to how well you can anticipate its long-range attacks. It has two attacks to look out for in particular: the long-range ice breath, and a long-range leaping attack. If you see the monster rear back with its head to the ground, start sprinting away to get out of range of the Iceblight it will inflict on you. If it jumps backward and leaps into the air, be ready to dodge forward to get out of its landing zone.

The monster also has a Weak Roar it will use as its health is lowered. Equip gear to reach at least Lvl 2 of the Earplugs skill to counteract this and continue attacking through its roars.

Quick Tips To Beat Blangonga

  • Attack the Blangonga’s face to break its tusks, which reduces its control over local Blango small monsters. These small monsters are essentially adds in the fight that the Blangonga will empower, but if you destroy its tusks, the monsters will become disorganized and much less of a threat.
  • Bring Flash Pods and both types of Trap to interrupt the Blangonga and create windows of opportunity to attack and break wounds.
  • Don’t underestimate how far the Blangonga can leap as a ranged weapon user. This is one of the hardest monsters to beat with ranged weapons for how much ground it can cover with its leaping attack.
  • This monster is very mobile and can cover a large distance with several attacks. Equip gear with the Evade Extender skill to make it easier to get out of the way of the Blangonga’s smashes, swipes, and leaps.
  • Take advantage of the monster’s long Ice Breath animation to get in your most powerful attacks – just make sure you get to the side, or behind, the Blangonga before it starts this move.
