Fans might get to learn more information about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond during the Nintendo Switch 2 livestream on April 2. Gamers have been waiting anxiously for a new Metroid Prime game since Metroid Prime 3: Corruption launched for the Wii in 2007, and the fourth entry has had a long and turbulent development cycle that made that wait even longer. Originally announced in 2017, Metroid Prime 4 was initially to be developed without Retro Studios, but development would later be restarted with the studio of the first three Prime entries at the helm in 2019.

Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting an official release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, with the official Metroid website stating that it could come out at some point in 2025. The new Nintendo Switch 2 console is also set to launch this year, leaving many to believe that Metroid Prime 4 is being developed for the new system. A new rumor suggests that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond could be shown during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct livestream on April 2. This comes from industry insider Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly, who says that Metroid Prime 4 will “blow everything else in the Direct out of the water” in a recent post on Bluesky. In a similar Twitter post, Reilly stated that he is 90% certain that Metroid Prime 4 will be featured during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, but stressed that Nintendo is constantly tweaking its livestream plans up to the last minute.

Metroid 4 Could Be Shown at the April 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Direct

So far, the only first-party Nintendo game confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2 is a new Mario Kart sequel, but this will most likely change after the Switch 2 Direct on April 2. Fans are expecting plenty of big announcements during the upcoming livestream, including an official release date for the new Nintendo hardware.

Another recent rumor hinted that Metroid Prime 5 is already in development as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive that could hit stores in 2027. Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt, just like the latest claims that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be featured at the April 2 Nintendo Direct. That being said, the upcoming Nintendo Direct would be an ideal outlet to reveal more Metroid Prime 4 news, especially if it is set to launch later this year.
