Avowed has a ton of secrets waiting to be uncovered. The game encourages players to explore every nook and cranny because you never know where you might find a secret door or breakable entrance that leads to hidden treasure chests containing high-value loot.
Keep that in mind when searching for Ruanga on behalf of Captain Ngunu. She is located somewhere in the Abandoned Mine north of Thirdborn. However, there does not appear to be any entrance or doorway leading through the mountains into the mine. So there must be a hidden door, right? Well, sort of. The entrance to the mine is actually out in the open, but you need to know exactly where to look to find it.
The following short guide will quickly show you how to enter the Abandoned Mine, speak with Ruanga, and convince her to accept Captain Ngunu’s invitation for the One Last Drink side quest in Avowed.

How to Enter the Abandoned Mine to Reach Ruanga in Avowed
Start by fast-traveling to either the Thirdborn Party Camp or the Ancient Lakebed South Beacon in Shatterscrap. Follow the trail north between the mountains, and keep your eyes peeled for a large dinosaur-like fossil in the rocks on your right, as marked on the map above. The entrance to the Abandoned Mine is located next to it in Avowed.
Climb the ledges and rocks below the fossil to make your way up the slope, as shown in the image below. Once you are at eye level, you will find a small opening in the rocks leading to the mine. Head on right through to finally get to Ruanga with Captain Ngunu’s invitation.
Sneak your way through the opening because there are a few beetles just ahead. Take them out, and you will be free to loot the Abandoned Mine without any worries because there are no other enemies in the mine besides the beetles you just dealt with.
Finding the Abandoned Mine’s entrance may have been easy, but the real challenge lies in convincing Ruanga to return. Follow the wooden platforms to the top, where you will find Ruanga in a small cave-like room. She believes Captain Ngunu is out to kill them. Her conversation opens up multiple dialogue choices necessary for unlocking a missable achievement in Avowed.
Therefore, it is recommended to speak with Ruanga last, only after you have dealt with Tauwe and Kowha. This gives you enough time to prepare to not just convince Ruanga to return but also plan to turn the tables on Captain Ngunu to complete the One Last Drink side quest in Avowed.
After speaking with Ruanga, explore the cliffs on top of the Abandoned Mine to find the Trickster’s Boots and a Fragment of Starmetal in Avowed.
