Digimon Could Be Getting Its Own Version of Pokemon TCG Pocket

Summary

  • Digimon may soon get its own version of Pokemon TCG Pocket based on its own card game.
  • A recent teaser trailer implies that a mobile game is on the way, with more information expected to be revealed at Digimon Con on March 20.

Digimon could be getting its own version of Pokemon TCG Pocket soon based on its own card game. Pokemon and Digimon share many similarities, as both are franchises that came to prominence in the late 90s and are centered around a growing universe of elementally empowered monsters that can partner up with humans and battle against each other. Like Pokemon, Digimon has spawned games, TV shows, toys, and other merchandise in the years since its initial debut.

While Digimon’s video games have never quite reached the critical and commercial success of Pokemon, the past few years have seen a resurgence of sorts for the inhabitants of the Digital World. Back in 2022, Digimon Survive finally launched after a long and troubled development cycle to mixed reviews, and earlier this year Bandai Namco announced a new chapter in the Digimon Story series that will feature parallel timelines and a host of classic creatures.

Digimon Fans Need to Circle March 19 on Their Calendars

Fans of the Digimon franchise should mark March 19 on their calendars, as more news about a highly-anticipated game will be discussed.

More information about the recently revealed Digimon Story: Time Stranger is expected to be shown at the upcoming Digimon Con event, and this might not be the only gaming news to be found. A few days ago, the Digimon Trading Card Game Twitter account posted a cryptic trailer for a new Digimon mobile game. Renamon, a Digimon familiar to fans of Digimon Tamers (the third season of the Digimon anime) comes across a mobile phone that draws the fox-like creature inside. The phone then turns around to face the camera with its screen displaying a message that says that more information will be revealed at Digimon Con on March 20.

Mystery Digimon Project Could Be Like Pokemon TCG Pocket

The trailer didn’t really specify what this mystery Digimon project is supposed to be, but the presence of a mobile phone and the fact that it was released during this weekend’s Bandai Card Games Fest seems to suggest that this might be a mobile game similar to Pokemon TCG Pocket. As its name suggests, Pokemon TCG Pocket is a free-to-play mobile title that allows players to collect and trade Pokemon cards and battle against other users online.

So far, Pokemon TCG Pocket has been incredibly successful since it launched in October 2024, with the game reportedly pulling in around $3 million a day in revenue since its initial release. Now it seems like the companies behind Digimon are looking to replicate this with their own version of the mobile title using Digimon’s own trading card game, though there won’t be a concrete confirmation until Digimon Con on March 20.
