Creepy Silent Hill f Steelbook Revealed

The Steelbook for Silent Hill f has been revealed, with its haunting cover quickly making an impression on the horror game community. While no release date for the next entry in the long-running series has been revealed, recent details regarding Silent Hill f have fans eager to know all they can about the upcoming survival horror title.

First announced in October 2022 and properly revealed during the recent Silent Hill Transmission livestream, Silent Hill f will serve as the eighth mainline title in the franchise following 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour. In a major change for the series, the game will not be set in Maine and will instead take place in 1960s Japan, following high school student Hinako Shimizu as she fights back against horrifying monsters in a town consumed by fog. With a central theme of “finding beauty in terror,” the title promises to bring back some familiar aspects of the series while also embracing some welcome changes, with players asked to expect a fully Japanese horror experience.

A slew of new, weighty questions surround the Silent Hill franchise in the wake of Silent Hill f’s recent reveal, especially when it comes to setting.

In a new post on the Konami UK Twitter account, fans were treated to a glimpse at the Steelbook for Silent Hill f, which seems to feature the protagonist’s face having been cut or burned away. The item is listed as an exclusive physical pre-order item in the UK, and as the game does not yet have a release date, more details will be revealed at some point in the future. The artwork shown on the Steelbook was created by Kera, a Japanese artist who is also working on the many monster designs players can expect to discover in the horror title. With such graphic art already being teased, it’s no surprise that Silent Hill f has been rated M, and has also received a CERO:Z rating in Japan, the equivalent to an 18+ rating.

More details regarding the troubling content players can expect to find in Silent Hill f have begun to appear on Konami’s website, including descriptions of child abuse, bullying, torture, graphic violence, and drug-induced hallucinations. The title will take place in Ebisugaoka, which was inspired by the real town of Kanayama, Gero in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture.

While fans are happy to hear more about Silent Hill f, it isn’t the only entry in the series that Konami has in the works. The spin-off title Silent Hill: Townfall is still in development, and is planned to be released as an anthology series, with each episode telling a unique standalone story. The first episode is being developed by the British studio No Code with the help of Annapurna Interactive.
