Wingdrake Hide is fairly important in Monster Hunter Wilds. It helps you craft things from Insect Glaives to Talismans. There are a lot of uses for the crafting material. Because of that importance, you may find yourself farming for it more often than other resources.

While Wingdrake Hide is easy to find, it only drops from defeating certain monsters in certain areas. There’s also a higher-quality variant that might confuse some about how to acquire it. If you’re struggling to find Wingdrake Hide, this guide will outline what you need to do.
How To Get Wingdrake Hide
You may come across Wingdrake Hide early on in Monster Hunters Wilds, as the creatures you need to hunt appear in the early sections of the game.
The two monsters that hold the resource are Baunos and Harpios. Both of these creatures fall into the small monster category, which makes them easier to hunt. Plus, you won’t need a party when fighting these monsters.
Both of these monsters appear in different areas. You can find Banous typically flying in Areas 16 and 17 of the Plains region. For Harpios, you’ll need to look in the Forest or Oilwell Basin (Basin).
In the Forest region, there seems to be no fixed area where Harpios appear. On the other hand, they seem to appear often in Areas 8 and 10 on the second level of the Oilwell Basin region that you unlock in Chapter 2.
Neither creature seems to have optional quests at Alma’s Quest Counter. Because of that, you’ll need to hunt for them in the wild in their respective regions.
Both these monsters will be in the air when you find them in the wild. To bring them down, aim at one, and a prompt allowing you to yank it down with your slinger will pop up. When you bring the beast down, hit it a few times, and it should die. After that, you can loot it for Wingdrake Hide.
How To Get Wingdrake Hide+
The base tier of Wingdrake Hide can only be found in Low Rank. However, you can find the higher-tried counterpart simply called Wingdrake Hide+ in High Rank.
For the high-rank version, you must have beaten Monster Hunter Wilds and made it to the end-game.
All you need to do is hunt either Baunos or Harpios in the same regions: Forest, Basin, or Plains. When you slay these creatures in High Rank, they drop the higher-tier variant of the hide.
Grounding them is done the same way as it is in Low Rank. Close the gap between you and the monster by pulling it down, and then attack it.
If you’re in High Rank and need the base version of Wingdrake Hide, you can still get it. You just need to be in Low Rank. To do this, head to Alma’s Quest Counter and pick a monster from the Optional Quest tab to hunt that is 3 Stars or lower.
But make sure you select a monster that roams the areas mentioned above.
For example, if you hunt the one-star Doshaguma, you’ll end up in the Forest. Then, when you start this quest, you can search for and fight a Harpios.
You don’t have to kill the main monster you’re supposed to be hunting. Once you have enough Wingdrake Hide, you can cancel the mission by talking to Alma and get sent back to the base camp. At the Base Camp Menu, the hide should be located in the Transfer Items menu.
Since Wingdrake Hide and Wingdrake Hide+ make different items, double-check what you’re crafting to see if there’s a plus sign on the label. Doing so will save you the headache of finding out you got the wrong version of the Wingdrake Hide.
