Focus Entertainment has confirmed that Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3 is in development, and here are a few things the sequel could expand upon.
The universe of Warhammer 40K is filled with numerous war-hungry enemies, with the previous two games each featuring two enemy factions. The original game brought Orks and Chaos Space Marines, while the more recent Space Marine 2 depicted the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons. At this early stage, the enemy factions that could appear in Space Marine 3 are anyone’s guess. Fans can only speculate and eagerly await news of the upcoming Warhammer release.

Genestealer Cults
A World on the Brink
- Possible Bosses: Patriarch, Magus, Abominant
- Possible Enemies: Genestealers, Aberrants, Acolyte Hybrids
The story of Space Marine 3 is shrouded in mystery and could feature any number of enemies in many locations. A Genestealer Cult could be a fun enemy for Titus to encounter on a single planet. These enemies embed themselves in a population, spreading in secret until they attack without warning. This eventually results in a full-scale Tyranid invasion, dooming the planet forever.
Many units from the current Genestealer Cult range could feature in Space Marine 3, from the deadly Genestealers or hulking Aberrants to common foot soldiers such as Acolyte Hybrids. The leader of the Cult, the enormous Genestealer Patriarch, would also make for a fantastic boss battle. While this faction may be too similar to Space Marine 2’s enemies, the Genestealer Cult offers a strong mix of close-combat melee and long-range fire to bring players down.

Death Guard
Followers of the God of Decay
- Possible Bosses: Foetid Bloat-Drones, Lord of Contagion, Great Unclean One
- Possible Enemies: Nurglings, Poxwalkers, Plague Bearers, Plague Marines, Blightlord Terminators
While the Death Guard are unlikely enemies for Space Marine 3, these heavily deformed followers of Nurgle would be a fun and surprising addition to the upcoming sequel. Spreading disease and decay wherever they go, this faction would include slow-moving Plague Marines and powerful Blightlord Terminators dealing heavy damage to players.
The Death Guard’s unique daemon engines and swarms of monsters would be fun adversaries for Titus to battle. From the flying Foetid Bloat-Drones, as potential boss battles, to waves of Nurglings, Poxwalkers, and Plaguebearers swarming over the player, the Death Guard is as diverse as it is disturbing.
6
Orks
Return of a Fan Favorite
- Possible Bosses: Warboss in Mega Armour, Beastboss on Squigosaur, Deff Dread
- Possible Enemies: Gretchen, Boyz, Nobz, Stormboyz, Killa Kans, Kommandos
While the Orks may have featured in the first Space Marine game, Warhammer 40K fans would be more than happy to see a return of the greenskins. In the lore, the Orks are one of the most numerous enemies in the galaxy. Space Marine 3 would be a good opportunity to show more of the Ork units featured in the Warhammer range.

The Warhammer 40k universe has many factions to choose from, but arguably the best among them are the various tribes of Orks.
Possible enemies could range from the new Kommando enemies attacking by stealth to the huge Beastboss on Squigosaur as a formidable boss encounter. Space Marine 3 could even feature the Ork’s huge war machines, such as a Stompa or a city-killing Mega-Gargant. While other factions are more likely to be featured, the Orks remain a fan favorite.
5
Iron Warriors
Iron Within, Iron Without
- Possible Bosses: Venomcrawler, Maulerfiend, Forgefiend
- Possible Enemies: Chaos Marines, Chaos Terminators, Obliterators, Warpsmith
The Iron Warriors are a traitor marine faction that follows Chaos Undivided. They are known as siege warfare specialists, who use many colossal daemon engines in battle. While their appearance would be similar to the Chaos Marines in the first game, the Iron Warriors are a brutal faction that would be a formidable enemy in Space Marine 3.
Space Marine 3 could expand on the different Chaos Marines seen in the series. Such an expansion could range from the deformed and deadly Obliterators to the powerful Warpsmiths, leading Daemon Engines into battle.
4
Chaos Knights
Colossal War Machines
- Possible Bosses: Chaos Warlord Titan, Knight Abominant
- Possible Enemies: War Dog Karnivore, War Dog Brigand
While Chaos Knights are unlikely to be a main faction enemy, they could be featured as part of a larger Chaos force. These huge walking machines of destruction would make a spectacular enemy for Titus to take down. Armed with weapons that can destroy cities, a Titan towers above battlefields, bringing death with every step.

Warhammer 40k: 7 Reasons to Play Chaos Space Marines
Chaos Space Marines are a cornerstone of Warhammer 40k. Not only do they have excellent designs, but their lore makes them interesting antagonists.
While a huge Titan would make for a great action sequence for Titus to endure, the small Chaos Knights could make for challenging boss fights. War Dogs, such as Karnivores and Brigands, are smaller knights that are fast, powerful, and deadly. These enemies would be tough to defeat and jaw-dropping to see.
3
Drukhari
Sadistic Denziens of the Dark City
- Possible Bosses: Talos, Archon
- Possible Enemies: Wyches, Incubi, Mandrakes, Scourges
The Drukhari, or Dark Eldar, require pain and suffering from others to rejuvenate their souls. These sadistic pirates and slavers attack planets in lightning-fast raids, taking their victims back into the warp, to the dark city of Commorragh.
This faction has recently appeared in the CRPG, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, and would make for a fun enemy for Titus to fight in Space Marine 3. Their agile warriors, such as Wyches or Incubi, would be great close-combat opponents, while terrifying monstrosities such as Cronos and Talos could make for imposing boss battles.
2
World Eaters
Disciples of the Blood God
- Possible Bosses: Lord Invocatus, Lord of Skulls, Daemon Prince
- Possible Enemies: Jackals, Khorne Berzerkers, Eightbound, Bloodletters
In each Space Marine installment, the first featured enemy eventually changes to one of the many Chaos factions. In Space Marine 3, the World Eaters would make a welcome addition to this trend.
The World Eaters are war-crazed berzerkers whose only goal is to spill blood for their Chaos god, Khorne. These would make excellent close-combat opponents, charging towards Titus with speed and aggression. Their daemon-possessed warriors, the Eightbound, would be formidable Extremis enemies, while the Jakhals would be fun enemy fodder for players to wade through.
1
Necrons
Ancient Cursed Machines
- Possible Bosses: Skorpekh Lord, C’Tan, Triarch Stalker
- Possible Enemies: Immortals, Skorpekh Destroyers, Necron Warriors, Deathmarks
These ancient and deadly machines currently stand as the most likely enemies to be featured in Space Marine 3. While this hasn’t been confirmed, at the end of Space Marine 2’s campaign, Titus and his battle brothers discover an ancient tomb world of the Necrons.
