Summary
- Concept art for a different version of the Minecraft movie is being shared around online.
- The art shows an Enderdragon, and a very different version of Steve.
- Fans prefer this version, and aren’t happy with how Minecraft is looking in live action.
The Minecraft movie is coming to theatres next month, and fans aren’t too pleased with what they’ve seen so far. Well, that’s putting it mildly. In actual fact, it feels like many have already written the film off as an adaptation of a game that misses the mark, straying from the source material.
However, it seems that this might not have always been the case. Concept art for a version of the film that never saw the light of day is being shared around online once again, and it gives us a very different version of what Minecraft on the big screen could have looked like. This includes Steve who actually looks like Steve – not Jack Black.
Minecraft Fans Wish We Got This Version Of The Film
No live action Steves in sight
The Minecraft Movie Updates account shared the images recently, but they were initially made public back in September of last year. Here, concept artist Vance Kovacs shared this very different vision for a Minecraft movie, showing ideas for the Enderdragon.
However, in one of the pieces of art, you can make out two heroes, one of which is clearly Steve. This version of Steve looks just like he does in the game, rather than an actual human played by Jack Black.
Minecraft Movie Updates hypothesises that this is the version of Minecraft that would have been directed by Peter Sollett. He was attached to write and direct the film back in 2019, but in 2022, it was confirmed that he was no longer on the project. It is now being directed by Jared Hess, and the script has been rewritten.
