While most of these changes don’t seem to have caused that much impact just yet, there was one rumoured change that worried a lot of fans. Nearly two weeks ago, it was reported that Final Fantasy 14’s producer and director, Naoki Yoshida, was no longer listed on Square Enix’s board of directors, prompting some worries about his future.
Don’t Worry, Yoshi-P Isn’t Leaving Square Enix
Since that small detail was first spotted a few weeks ago, Final Fantasy 14 fans have been waiting for an official comment from Yoshida about his position at Square Enix. As reported by PCGamesN, that’s exactly what we got in the pre-show for Final Fantasy 14 Live Letter 86, where Yoshi-P set the record straight.
As translated by Final Fantasy 14 Discord user iluna minori, Yoshida talked to community producer Toshio Murouchi during the livestream’s pre-show, where the topic of his board position came up. Yoshi-P says that his title is going to change from director to executive officer at some point this year, but that it won’t be a big change for him.
Apparently some people are misunderstanding that Yoshi-P is no longer an executive at Square Enix and such. But there’s actually no change. If anything it’s just some shift in roles and so on. Yoshi-P’s position is untouched. – iluna minori
Minori says that Yoshida confirmed that there’s “actually no change” and that it’s really just a shift in roles, with Yoshi-P’s position being “untouched” outside of the name switch. According to minori, Yoshi-P laughed about people making up the idea that he didn’t want to be an executive anymore, but that he’s going to do his best to just keep delivering “fun games”.
While it’s still a little unclear why Yoshida’s name is even being changed if there’s no real impact on his role, it is at least comforting to know that he’s not going anywhere and hasn’t run into any kind of trouble at Square Enix. Here’s hoping that’s the last time we have to worry about the whole situation.
