Every Major Hammerfell Location That Should Be in The Elder Scrolls 6

Demand for The Elder Scrolls 6 is growing by the day, with Bethesda strangely leaving fans in the dark regarding the project ever since the release of its now-infamous reveal trailer in 2018. With well over a decade now having passed since the last mainline entry to the popular franchise, the expectations surrounding TES 6 are understandably massive, with prospective fans currently only being able to theorize as to what kind of experience the game will eventually bring.

Of course, the most important aspect of The Elder Scrolls 6 will be its setting. Past entries to the franchise were defined by the cultures and landscapes that they take place within. While currently unconfirmed, the theories behind what major location The Elder Scrolls 6 will take place in overwhelmingly point towards the sizable province of Hammerfell, which location seems like a logical choice for a game as ambitious as TES 6. A Hammerfell-set TES 6 would have a huge number of gameplay avenues to explore, as well as fascinating locations that would need to make front-and-center appearances.

The Elder Scrolls: 9 Largest Dragons, Ranked

Dragons are cunning, fearsome creatures in The Elder Scrolls, and they can vary in size.

  • Alik’r Desert
  • Sentinel
  • Dragonstar
  • Stros M’Kai
  • Daggerfall

One of the most appealing aspects of Hammerfell from a gameplay perspective is its wide range of biomes, with the province featuring everything from sprawling deserts, dense jungles, mountainous regions, and a bustling coastal industry. Hammerfell is perhaps best known for its harsh sandy plains, and the Alik’r Desert would surely have to appear in The Elder Scrolls 6 if it does end up choosing Hammerfell as its major location.

The Alik’r Desert takes up large swathes of Hammerfell’s northwest, acting as a gateway to the Dragontail Mountains and its border with High Rock, with the imposing inhabitants, wildlife, and ruins of the arid region being the perfect setting for The Elder Scrolls 6‘s exploration and worldbuilding. The Alik’r Desert is also home to one of Hammerfell’s most bustling and important cities: Sentinel. This is a key location that would smartly open up The Elder Scrolls 6 to the vast gameplay opportunities of the Iliac Bay.

Dragonstar is another major Hammerfell city that should appear in The Elder Scrolls 6, crucially being situated close to the border between the province and Skyrim. While TES 6 should of course move far beyond Skyrim and firmly seek its own identity, the proximity of Hammerfell to the iconic namesake province of The Elder Scrolls 5 is too good to avoid. The ownership of Dragonstar has been hotly contested between Skyrim and Hammerfell throughout Tamriel’s history, making for some fascinating potential questlines within the location that could shrewdly bridge the gap between The Elder Scrolls 6 and its predecessor.

Hammerfell’s Bustling Coast Could Be the Key to TES 6’s Most Interesting Locations

The vast coastline of TES 6 could be key to new types of travel and exploration for the franchise, potentially even allowing the player to purchase and maintain boats for merchant or piracy purposes. If this is the case, then the island territory of Stros M’Kai would be a prime candidate for an appearance in The Elder Scrolls 6. Not only has Stros M’Kai changed hands between Hammerfell and the Cyrodiil Empire over the years, but it marks one of the first locations that the Redguard landed in their colonization of the province, which makes it an excellent location to explore the history of Hammerfell itself.

While the Redguard are commonly associated with Hammerfell, the race originates from the sunken continent of Yokuda. The mysterious fate of this homeland is a key question that a Hammerfell-set TES 6 could explore.

While each city of Hammerfell would need to appear in The Elder Scrolls 6, it would be bold of Bethesda to also include regions of High Rock as part of the game’s base map. This could see locations like the High Rock city of Daggerfall appear in TES 6 alongside the major locations of Hammerfell, providing a fascinating modern glimpse into the major location of the second mainline TES entry. It still remains to be seen whether The Elder Scrolls 6 has decided on Hammerfell as its primary setting, yet the potential locations, gameplay, and storylines that the province and its surrounding areas could provide are still deeply exciting to think about.
