Fossilized Opals are one of the rarer items in the game for a few reasons. They only appear in certain regions, and the weather has a large impact on how often and plentiful they are, with some of the rarer versions even being harder to come across in some areas. Here’s how to get your hands on some of these rare opals.

Where To Get Fossilized Fire Opals And Genesis Opals

Fossilized Opals come in three forms, in rarities four, five, and six. These are regular Fossilized Opals, Fossilized Fire Opals, and the rarest of all, Genesis Opals. The first two come from Exquisite Fossil gathering points, which can be found in the Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, and Iceshard Cliffs.

These are single pick-up items, but they benefit greatly from the use of the Geologist skill. Fire Opals are quite rare even during the Plenty, so using this skill is essential to maximizing your gains. Despite Exquisitie Fossils appearing in most regions, Fire Opals can only be acquired in the Windward Plains and Oilwell Basin, so check these areas when farming for them.

Genesis Opals work a little differently. Like many Rarity Six items, it only appears under certain circumstances. You must wait for the Magnificent Fossil Emergence event to occur, in which a new gathering point, the Magnificent Fossil, appears. You can’t directly influence it’s appearance unfortunately, so resting until the event appears is your best chance here.

Many Fossilized Opals seem to have a higher chance of appearing during the Fallow, interestingly enough.

Despite Exquisite Fossils not appearing there naturally, Magnificent Fossils can appear in the Ruins of Wyveria, as well as many of the other areas in which Exquisite Fossils appear.

Uses For Fossilized Fire Opals And Genesis Opals

After you’ve gathered up some rare opals, which may admittedly take quite a long time, you’ll want to put them to use. All three opals are used exclusively in trading with Sild, and they offer many of their own unique items in exchange. This can include Guardian Seikret Feathers, Great Hibiscus, and even plate materials from some Guardian monsters.

Though it likely goes without saying, the rarer the Opal, the better the item you can receive for it. If any items you want aren’t available for trade, then simply rest until the next in-game day for the stock to refresh. Many of the items Sild does offer for trade tend to be quite hard to acquire otherwise, such as their Speciality Sild Garlic.
