Warframe Techrot Encore: The Technocyte Coda Explained



The standout feature of Warframe‘s upcoming Techrot Encore expansion will be the Technocyte Coda, a new Adversary system with a new group of boss encounters. These infested liches will be at the heart of Warframes next update, and they’ll be bringing a whole new challenge to the table.

Warframe‘s Techrot Encore update will add a smorgasbord of new features to the game, including a new Warframe (the 60th to grace the title), four new Protoframes, a new minigame, and much more. However, the most sizable addition by far will be the new Technocyte Coda, a group of bosses that players will be able to hunt down and slay. In an interview with Game Rant, a number of Warframe devs (including design director Pablo Alonso and community director Megan Everett) spoke more about how the Technocyte Coda will set itself apart.

How The Technocyte Coda Works

Warframe‘s Technocyte Coda are Infested liches that have taken the form of a twisted boyband mimicry. The Coda work similarly to the game’s previous Adversary systems, such as that of 2019’s Kuva Liches, this time being summoned via the installation of a Technocyte.exe program on a virus-riddled computer. This program can be dropped by Techrot enemies throughout 1999 and, once active, will cause the player to start losing resources at the end of missions.

Random members of the Technocyte Coda will start showing up throughout Techrot Encore’s new missions, as well as any other 1999 mission. After enough of these band members have been killed, the player can pursue the Adversary to the Origin System. Players will then be able to initiate the Technocyte Coda Showdown and face off against the band.

When discussing the new gameplay features of Warframe‘s Techrot Encore, Alonso was able to speak at length about Technocyte Coda. Specifically, he went into detail about how they’ll set themselves apart from previous Adversary systems:

“Before, the previous system had more of you having to unlock a key code to figure out the right way to defeat the enemies. All of that doesn’t exist in this version. The actual cycle that you have to go through to fight them is different. Then, the huge difference is that, instead of being just one, now you have five. Now you get more variety in the fight—when you’re doing the fights in the mission, you have what we call Duets. You get two of them at a time, and the combinations change, so it can keep the gameplay fresh. When you fight them at the very end, it’s all of them at once, and it does make it a little more spectacular to have those gameplay moments.

Also, instead of being randomized weapons, like on all the other ones, this is a token system, so you can get the tokens and then get the weapon you want directly.”

The Technocyte Coda Is What Split 1999

There’s no question as to the scale of Techrot Encore’s Technocyte Coda; as Alonso stated, there are five band members for players to defeat. The Technocyte Coda are the biggest part of Techrot Encore, and Everett spoke about how their scope was the key reason as to why Encore was split from 1999:

“I think we had to make that choice to take out Technocyte Coda so that we were able to ship 1999 as we could. I’m very happy that we did because I feel like Technocyte Coda has turned into something way bigger and better than it could have ever been if we had shipped it at the end of last year.”
