As shared on the Star Wars Celebration panel schedule, Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment will be providing a first-look at their upcoming turn-based tactics game set within the world of Star Wars. The reveal will take place on the “Galaxy Stage,” which sounds like a pretty big deal.

Respawn, of course, is perhaps most famous for its work on the Star Wars Jedi franchise, in which a “final chapter” is concurrently in the works. Meanwhile, Bit Reactor has had work on the likes of XCOM, Civilization and Elder Scrolls Online, according to its website.

20 years later, it’s hard to imagine Disney making a game like Republic Commando, but that’s exactly what the sequel era needs.

What We Know About The Game

The yet-to-be-revealed Star Wars tactics game is one of three projects Respawn is known to be involved with. As Insider Gaming noted, Respawn will produce the game, while the Greg Foerstch-led studio will head its development.

It was originally announced in January 2022, with Foerstch saying the deal came “out of the blue,” according to an IGN report. At the time, he added, the goal was to “blur the line between strategy and action,” while also using the “full potential” of a tactics game.

Despite layoffs two years later in 2024, Bit Reactor said the game was still in development. That same year, it was revealed that at least 15 members of the team were former Firaxis devs and veterans of XCOM. Finally, in January of this year, it was rumored that the game would be revealed during Star Wars Celebration, with Steam, Xbox and PlayStation being the targeted platforms. Now, we know that Star Wars Celebration is indeed the place of reveal, and it won’t be too long before fans get a better idea of what to expect.
