  • The Devil Fruits Didn’t Always Exist
  • The Forest God Created The Devil Fruits

One thing is clear, however, and that is the fact that Devil Fruits also didn’t exist in the world before 900 years ago. To be more specific, the First World did not have Devil Fruits, and this is clear from the fact that the Harley doesn’t mention anything pertaining to these fruits in the sacred texts. The real Nika is mentioned in the Harley to have emerged in Feb First World, but after the total destruction of the world, it is unclear as to what happened to him.

Regardless, the Harley clearly tells the fans that the Devil Fruits came into existence during the Second World. Here’s what the Harley states:

First World

Flames engulfed the land, and humans succumbed to their desires, touching the forbidden Sun. The enslaved prayed, and the Sun God appeared. The Earth God was enraged, and together with the serpent of infernal flames, shrouded the world in death and darkness. They would never meet again.

Second World

Breath stirred within the void, and the Forest God sent forth demons. The Sun did nothing but spread the fires of war. The people of the half-moon dreamed, the people of the full-moon dreamed. Humans slew the Sun and became Gods, and the Sea God raged. They Would never meet again.

Third World

In chaos, there is void. The troubled shadow remembers the promised day, and hears the voice of the fractured moon. The Sun God dances and laughs, leading the world to its end. The sun will return once more, and a new dawn will arrive. Surely, this time, they will meet again.

The key part here is the Second World, where the Harley essentially states that the Forest God gave birth to the Devil Fruits. Now, this may not be quite clear to all fans, but forests themselves are linked to trees and trees bear fruit. Clearly, the forest god gave birth to the Devil Fruits for the very first time during this era.

One Piece: The Creator Of Devil Fruits, Explained

The Devil Fruits haven’t always exist in One Piece. They were created by a certain individual.

All the Devil Fruits that exist in the world are a result of the wishes of the people. Some people wish for a certain thing in their life, others wish for something to save them from their woes, and all this wishing and desire is what leads to the creation of the Devil Fruits. It is also clearly stated by Vegapunk that Devil Fruit users exist in a different dimension with powers that were dreamed up by those who came before them. In other words, all the powers of the Devil Fruits that exist were created by people in the Void Century.

This was likely caused by a technological advancement, which makes sense because the world from 900 years ago was far more advanced than the world that fans see today in One Piece. Piecing everything together, what can clearly be said is that Devil Fruits were born around the time of the Void Century, and the way to bring them to life was to simply wish for them to exist.

Why Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika Was The First Devil Fruit

Slavery Was Always Rampant In The World

The very first Devil Fruit to exist in the One Piece world was likely the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Fans might be confused as to why the Nika fruit would’ve been the first one. But, the answer is simple. There are two reasons why this fruit was the first to come into existence. The first is the fact that slavery was rampant in the world of One Piece. Some fans tend to assume that slavery wasn’t a thing long ago, however, the Harley clearly states that slaves existed long ago, even in One Piece’s First World. Slaves and those who benefit from slavery always exist, and if slavery is rampant, then the most wished-for thing would, undoubtedly, be freedom, which subsequently means that the Nika Devil Fruit would’ve been the first to come to life.

Secondly, fans also know that the only thing that existed in the First World, that has also been relevant across all three, is Nika. Nika descended upon the planet long ago in the First World, and if he existed then, it would make sense as to why people wished for him the most. The prayers and wishes of the people likely led to the potentially Buccaneer boy, also known as Joy Boy, to dream up the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and become the Warrior of Liberation himself.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1143, is set to be March 23, 2025.
