One of Warframe’s
oldest weapons is the Lex, a powerful hand cannon that trades mobbing potential for precision. This weapon is highly accurate, deals great damage, and has some notable synergies with endgame mods and its Incarnon evolution.
Today, we’ll be taking a look at this ancient pistol and turning it into one of Warframe’s best secondary weapons. This guide explains how to get the Lex and its Prime variant, how the weapon’s Incarnon features work, and showcases some strong builds that are tailored for all skill levels. Use this to clear the Star Chart with ease, or throw on some Forma and a Genesis Adapter to transform the Lex into a monster.
How To Craft The Lex
The Lex is a handgun you can purchase from the in-game Market for 50,000 Credits. While the weapon is intended for Tenno who are Mastery Rank 3 or above, you do not have to be MR3 to purchase this weapon. So long as you have enough Credits, you can acquire this weapon. The Lex comes pre-built; no crafting timers or materials are needed.
Its gilded variant, the Lex Prime, is obtained through Void Relics found throughout the Star Chart. As you complete activities in Warframe, there’s a chance you’ll obtain a Void Relic as a potential reward. Some Void Relics will contain a Lex Prime component in their drop pool. Crack them open in a Void Fissure mission to receive a random part from that Void Relic’s drop pool.
Void Relics and Prime components may also be traded between players.

The Lex is Warframe’s take on a Desert Eagle, a hard-hitting hand cannon that excels when the user takes the time to land headshots. Each shot deals 130 damage with a moderate chance of landing a critical hit, making this a fantastic secondary weapon for newer Tenno just starting the game.
Once you’ve gotten a few Void Relics, you can get your hands on the Lex Prime, a gilded variant that features higher base damage, critical chance, status chance, and a drastically faster fire rate. It’s a strong option for clearing the Star Chart, although it’ll start to struggle in high-level Arbitrations and Steel Path content. Fortunately, you can make this weapon endgame viable with a single item: a Lex Incarnon Adapter.

Both Lex variants can be enhanced with a
Genesis Adapter
, an endgame item that can be earned through Duviri’s Circuit activity on Steel Path difficulty. Each week, a new set of Genesis Adapters will enter the reward pool. You may earn up to two adapters per week. The Lex’s adapter appears on Week 4. Speak with Cavalero aboard the Zarmian once you’ve obtained one to install it.
The Lex’s Incarnon form morphs the gun into a
Catchmoon Kitgun
, firing a wave of energy that deals catastrophic damage to anything caught in its path. This mode features substantially higher base damage, guaranteed Impact procs on hit, and travels as a slow projectile. Anything caught in the wave’s path will be damaged, perfect for clearing out hallways or tight groups of enemies.
Incarnon evolutions for the Lex mostly impact its damage stats, making it a more competitive option for Steel Path content. Generally, you want to spec for 1-1-2-3 for your evolutions. This substantially increases your gun’s base damage, magazine size, and critical stats. Land a few headshots with your main fire, transform the weapon into its Incarnon form, and then annihilate anything that stands in your way.
Lex Builds
We’ll be looking at two builds in this guide. The first is tailored for newer players who need a stronger secondary right after starting the game. Our second build is focused on pushing the Lex’s capabilities to the extreme, utilizing Primed mods and its Incarnon Genesis Adapter to make it viable for endgame Steel Path.
Starter Build (Lex, Zero Forma)
When you first get your hands on the Lex, you’re unlikely to have a spare Forma or even an Orokin Catalyst lying around. As such, this build is tailored for beginners who have minimal resources. We’ll be using the bare essentials here.
You’ll want to throw on a Hornet Strike that’s R4 or higher. This will increase your weapon’s base damage, which will stack multiplicatively with elemental damage mods. You want to equip a couple of these mods to form a combined element, greatly increasing your damage against certain factions. We’re using Corrosive in the above example, but feel free to tailor the element to the faction you’re facing. Upgrade both mods as much as you can until you get Barrel Diffusion.
Once you get your hands on a multishot mod like Barrel Diffusion, use your remaining points to install that mod. This will cause your Lex to fire two bullets instead of one, doubling your damage. Paired with our other mods, your weapon should be able to handle most of the Star Chart with little issue.
Orokin Catalyst Additions
If you have a spare Orokin Catalyst and love this weapon, we recommend you use the extra space to install the following mods: Lethal Torrent, Pistol Gambit, and Target Cracker. Level all of these mods as much as possible.
You can also opt out of critical mods and run additional elemental mods instead.
Endgame Build (Lex Prime, Six Forma)
Forma |
6 (5V, –) |
---|---|
Variant |
Lex Prime |
Incarnon Evolutions |
1-1-2-3 |
This build is focused on the Incarnon form of the Lex Prime. While the primary fire can certainly hold its own in endgame content, you’ll be using the standard fire mode as a buffer between Incarnon transformations. You can ramp up Cascadia Flare a little faster in your standard form than your Incarnon, so keep that in mind.
Damage scaling should be fairly standard here. Galvanized Diffusion and Lethal Torrent greatly buff your multishot, while Primed Pistol Gambit and Galvanized Crosshairs allow this weapon to achieve orange crits with high consistency. Primed Target Cracker will scale your critical damage. Throw on some heat mods—Primed Heated Charge and Scorch—to ensure you can proc Cascadia Flare’s 480 percent base damage bonus.
Our last mod might seem strange, but it’s surprisingly useful against Acolytes and other endgame bosses. Hemorrhage has a chance of inflicting a Slash proc against targets that are afflicted with Impact. Since the Incarnon form always triggers Impact procs on hit and this weapon fires so slowly, you have a 70 percent chance of triggering this mod with every shot. Give this mod a try if you’re struggling to kill bosses while in Incarnon mode.
