Summary
- Devil May Cry series is tough to 100 percent, requiring S ranks on every mission and beating difficult modes.
- Devil May Cry 2 is the easiest to beat, but has a tough achievement list with grinding requirements.
- Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition demands S rank on all missions and beating Bloody Palace with multiple characters.
In comparison to Ninja Gaiden, which was always seen as a brutally hard game series, Devil May Cry is tough but manageable. That is if you just want to beat the game. If you want to 100 percent these titles, be prepared for the hardest game series you’ll ever play to 100 percent.
These platinum trophies are for the truly elite, with later entries requiring brutal gauntlet marathons to finish. Some of the unlockable game modes are also ridiculous, and you’ll often have to S rank every mission on every difficulty, making these platinums a grind, too.

DmC: Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition
The Easiest Achievement List In The Series
When you look at what DmC: Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition offers, you’d think it would be brutally hard. There’s a ton of extra difficulty modes that ramp everything up, plus the return of Bloody Palace. However, you can skip most of that if you’re just going for the platinum. You’ll still need to beat Dante Must Die and Vergil Must Die difficulty modes, which are quite challenging, but everything else you would expect in a DMC platinum is easier here.
You don’t have to fully complete all 101 levels of Bloody Palace as you must beat 50 and 30 floors with Dante and Vergil, respectfully. You must also get an SSS rank on about half of the total missions for Dante and Vergil, and difficulty doesn’t matter. DmC still packs a hard punch, but it’s the easiest platinum.

Devil May Cry 2
The Easiest DMC Game, But A Harder Achievement List
Out of all the games in the Devil May Cry HD Collection, DMC2 is the easiest, but it can also feel like the longest grind. You must beat the game several times to unlock Trish and beat Dante/Lucia Must Die mode. The upgrades are ludicrously expensive and can take many playthroughs to get enough cash, or you can use a trick with bat enemies to get as many red orbs as you want.
Bloody Palace made its debut in DMC2, and you must beat 9,000 levels, an annoying affair considering how unenjoyable the game is. There’s actually a cheat code in the PAL version to make Bloody Palace way easier, but that’ll only help you if you’re on Xbox since you can manually change regions on the system.

Devil May Cry 1
Not Hard For The Reason You Think
DMC1 is all around a pretty difficult game, especially when you bump it up to Dante Must Die mode, but there’s special reasons why it’s so hard. For one, there’s no level select, so if you don’t get all the collectables on your first playthrough, you must play the game again from the beginning to find the ones you missed.
This is an extra inconvenience as you’ll likely be playing on a higher difficulty where you’ll want to follow the main path exclusively. The worst part, however, is the I Read You Like A Book achievement, which forces you to witness every attack available for every enemy. This proves to be a massive pain, as you’ll wait a long time for these enemies to finally dish out these attacks.

Devil May Cry 3
The S Rank Grind Begins
Most of the brutal aspects that made the previous DMC games so tough return here, but worse, and an extra nugget that makes it one of the top three hardest. DMC3’s Dante Must Die mode is by far the hardest yet, with wildly tanky enemies, and you must complete the entire Bloody Palace mode as well.

There are no cheat codes to use this time. The worst part, though, is that DMC3 is the first entry in the series to require you to S-rank every mission. Normally, this wouldn’t be too bad if not for the fact that DMC3 is probably the hardest game in the series next to DMC2 to get S ranks in.

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition
A Platinum For The Top Devil Hunters Out There
One of the hardest games to platinum on the PS5 has to be Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition. Much of the achievement list shouldn’t be too bad, but there are two major roadblocks when going for the platinum. One is the Worthy of Legend achievement, which forces you to S rank every single mission on every difficulty, excluding Heaven or Hell and Legendary Dark Knight modes.
You can’t use your handy Super costumes for these S ranks, and, as such, modes like Dante Must Die, and Hell and Hell will be brutal as a result. You’ll also have to beat Bloody Palace with all four characters, which is a grueling task, but the hardest DMC game demands even more from you.

Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition
You’re A Devil May Cry God If You Platinum This Game
Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition has to be one of the hardest platinums of all time. You’ll still have to S rank every mission on every difficulty, but some modes can be skipped in this regard, like Heaven or Hell and Hell and Hell. What’s really going to kick your teeth in is Bloody Palace because you must beat the mode with all five characters and you have extra tasks on top of it.
You must beat the mode within two hours, but worst of all, beat the final boss, Dante, without taking damage. Imagine going through 100 floors of this savage game mode, only to fail your no-damage Dante boss and have to go through Bloody Palace all over again.
