The Great Stoutbone is an item that’s primarily used for forging weapons, but finding it is extremely challenging due to its rarity. You’ll need this item in the High Ranks if you plan to craft certain weapons to face off against the challenging monsters, and here’s how you can find it.

How To Get The Great Stoutbone

The image shows the Great Stoutbone as a quest reward for As Gatekeeper Quest in Monster Hunter Wilds.

The Great Stoutbone is primarily found as a reward for completing High-Rank optional quests involving certain monsters or defeating them during a field survey. The following are the monsters that can drop the Great Stoutbone as a quest reward:

  • Ajarakan
  • Blangonga
  • Doshaguma

If you have the “As Gatekeeper” optional quest available, doing it is the most efficient way of collecting the Great Stoutbone. However, keep in mind that the As Gatekeeper quest requires you to hunt two Ajarakans at the same time, and that can be extremely challenging.

You can also repeatedly do the Blangonga Excursion or Doshaguma Hunt optional quests to collect the Great Stoutbone. The Annihilating Anguish, which is the optional quest to defeat Ajarakan, also has a chance of dropping this item.

The Great Stoutbone is mainly used in forging weapons and armor. It is required to craft most of the Tier IV Bone Tree weapons and some High Rank armor pieces, such as the Ajarakan Mail.

If you plan to craft Bone Tree Tier IV weapons, you’ll also need the Colossal Bone alongside the Great Stoutbone. You can gather the Colossal Bone by harvesting the carcasses of Blangos and Congas.
