If spells aren’t really your magical bread and butter when you’re Makin’ Magic in The Sims, then consider trying out magical charms instead. With a handful of ingredients and the right magical equipment on hand to create them, adults and children alike can create all kinds of charms!

With a different number of charges based on how powerful the Sim that created it is, you’ll have plenty of chances to do things like mess with other Sims’ moods, clean your entire home, create a perfect clone of yourself, and so much more. Here’s hoping the charm works as intended, though…
How To Make Charms
If your Sim is keen to dive into all things magical in the Makin’ Magic expansion, you’ll first need to get a bit of essential magic gear (which is mostly delivered to your house for free when you first begin playing on a new lot, with a visit from the Mystery Man). Among these items, be sure to grab the EverAfter Crafter for your adult magic Sims, while child Sims should instead use the MagiCo NeoMagical Newt. Child Sims have access to fewer spells than adult Sims, but they’ve got plenty of charms to get them started on their magical journey.
Adults and children cannot use one another’s machinery.
Like spells, charms require three magic ingredients each, items like beeswax and llama spit. You’ll need to look around the different lots in the magical world for these – some are purchased from vendors at these locations, while others come from side quests given by NPCs at magical locales. Apothecary Todd, the man who has the wagon you’ll see at most of the Magic Town locations, is your main source for most of these ingredients. In general, the more complicated a charm’s effects are, the rarer the items you’ll need to make it.
Once you’ve got the ingredients in your inventory, you can head back home and add them to the charm maker that corresponds with your magic Sim’s age. After adding your ingredients, simply select “Make Charm” and watch the machine get to work. This will produce a physical item nearby, and your Sim can then interact with the charm to use it.
Each charm is made with a set number of uses, denoted by the vibrancy of the item, becoming dark and non-functional after the final use. While child Sims always get six uses out of their charms, you’ll find that adult charms vary based on how high the creator’s Mechanical skill is when they craft the charm, with higher-skill Sims getting more uses.
Also like with spells, it’s critical to note that charms come with conditions, and you may find your Sim getting the opposite of what they asked for if those conditions are met. For example, a Sim whose mood is already in the green who uses the charm to improve their mood will find themselves plummeting into the red with decreased motives instead, while Rain of Riches can either bring money or literal rain for your Sim depending on their mood when they use the charm.
Every Charm And How To Make It In The Sims
We’ve noted the potential negative impacts of charms and what causes them to go awry in the table below. You’ll also find a full list of ingredients for every charm in The Sims: Makin’ Magic. Placing items into the EverAfter Crafter or MagicCo NeoMagical Newt that aren’t listed as a set combination below will not yield a charm.
