8 Naruto Arcs With The Best Stories, Ranked

Throughout the story of Naruto, some narrative arcs have been more memorable among fans for a variety of reasons.

Pretty much every popular character in Naruto has managed to say something emotional, encouraging and/or hopeful right before passing away, no matter whether they were a hero or a villain. As a result, this legendary story is filled to the brim with excellent dying speeches, but the following eight are the absolute best ones.

8

“Because My Art… IS A BANG!”

Deidara’s Last Words

  • Died In: Chapter 361 (Manga) Episode 124 (Shippuden Anime)

Pretty much every member of Akatsuki was a great character with a glorious death, but Deidara is definitely a major standout. This deadly artist confronted Sasuke back during the Itachi Pursuit Mission Arc and, after a long and violent battle, he was forced to turn himself into a bomb and explode in order to try and take out the young Uchiha with him.

Deidara was a self-proclaimed artist who saw his unique Ninjutsu and his explosive attacks as his artistic expressions, so, of course, his final and most over-the-top technique was his magnum opus, which is why he told Sasuke that his art was a “bang” right after unveiling it and dying with it. At the end of the day, this final line alone made the death of a character as unimportant as Deidara all the more memorable.

7

“Naruto… A Request From An Old Woman. You Are The Only One Who Knows Gaara’s Pain… Gaara Also Knows Your Pain. Help Gaara Out…”

Chiyo’s Last Words

  • Died In: Chapter 280 (Manga) Episode 31 (Shippuden Anime)

Granny Chiyo is one of the most underrated characters in all of Naruto, since this seemingly feeble old lady was actually a master of the Puppet Technique, not to mention that she played a key role in Sasori’s defeat. But she knew exactly what to do for the sake of Sunagakure and, thus, ended up giving her life to resurrect Gaara.

Chiyo used her self-made life-giving technique to revive Gaara at the end of the Kazekage Rescue Mission Arc and, with her final words, told Naruto to help him out. This is perfect proof of how perceptive she was, seeing as both Jinchuriki had similarly tragic childhoods, so she immediately noticed that Naruto was one of the few people who could help the young Kazekage and help him become a better leader for their village.

6

“It Seems My Work Ends Here, Naruto. I Believe You Can Bring True Peace.”

Nagato’s Last Words

  • Died In: Chapter 449 (Manga) Episode 175 (Shippuden Anime)

With his excellent design, complex power set and tragic backstory, it is no surprise that Pain/Nagato is one of the most popular Naruto antagonists. His popularity is easy to understand when taking a look at his emotional death scene, which takes place after a long and complicated battle against the series’ titular character.

Dream matchups between Naruto and the powerful characters on this list have never happened, but are the subject of much discussion among fans.

Nagato and Naruto are not too different from each other (they even shared the same master). But, despite everything that happened between them, the young hero empathized with the villain after hearing his backstory and decided not to kill him to avenge Jiraiya so as not to continue the cycle of revenge. This response completely changed Nagato’s worldview and encouraged him to revive everyone who died during his attack on Konohakagure. Of course, this complex technique drained his life, but he didn’t care at all, because he died with a smile on his face, knowing that Naruto was going to bring world peace to their world and prevent other people from suffering the same fate as him.

5

“You Were Always At My Side, The Least I Can Do Is To Be Beside You At The End. I Know It Cannot Be, But I Wish I Could Go To Where You Have Gone. How I Wish I Could Join You There, Haku”

Zabuza Momochi’s Last Words

  • Died In: Chapter 33 (Manga) Episode 19 (Original Anime)

The first story arc, simply titled Land of Waves, is one of the reasons Naruto became such a popular anime and manga very early on in its lifespan, mainly because it stars a pair of deadly but compelling villains: Zabuza Momochi and his loyal friend/underling, Haku. At the very end of the arc, Haku sacrificed himself for Zabuza, who, after being told by Gato that their previous agreement was off, seemed to not care about the death of his longtime partner.

Naruto reacted poorly to his actions and told him that Haku really did care for him, which prompted the Demon of the Hidden Mist to attack Gato and his men, who all managed to stab him to death. During his final moments, Zabuza lay alongside Haku and revealed his real feelings, by telling him that he wanted to die with him and that he wished they could go to the same place together. In one simple but extremely effective scene, Naruto proved how ruthless its world is and that even the most intimidating villains can be tragic figures.

4

“Forgive Me, Sasuke. There Won’t Be A Next Time.”

Itachi Uchiha’s Last Words

  • Died In: Chapter 393 (Manga) Episode 138 (Shippuden Anime)

The intense rivalry between Sasuke Uchiha and his older brother, Itachi, was one of the most fascinating and suspenseful plot threads in the entire series and, after a lot of buildup and speculation, it concluded in an incredible fight in which both brothers got to show off their best and most impressive techniques.

But the violent encounter ended abruptly when Itachi slowly approached Sasuke, poked him in his forehead just like he used to do back when they were kids, coughed up blood and died right before his eyes. It would later be revealed that Itachi was suffering from a terminal illness and was waiting to die at the hands of his younger brother, so the poke, alongside his touching final words, was a playful way of revealing his true intentions while also reminding Sasuke of a better time. This is a very emotional death scene, and the first step in revealing that Itachi was not so bad after all.

3

“Shikamaru… You’re So Smart… And You Have Great Sense As A Shinobi. You Could Definitely Become A Hokage. But… You’re Too Lazy… You’d Probably Hate It. I Want One Last Smoke…”

Asuma Sarutobi’s Last Words

  • Died In: Chapter 328 (Manga) Episode 80 (Shippuden Anime)

Asuma Sarutobi was the leader of Team 10 and, as a result, was a great mentor to Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka, and Choji Akimichi. But he was tragically and unexpectedly murdered by the Akatsuki member Hidan during a crucial mission, and his three students were right there beside him during his final moments.

There have been several embarrassing defeats throughout the Naruto series. These examples tend to stick out.

In his dying breath, Asuma gave a heartbreaking speech, telling his students that he’s proud of them and that he expects big things for all of them in their future. Needless to say, the most important part of his speech was dedicated to Shikamaru, since he told him that he was sure he could become Hokage someday, something that, curiously enough, ended up happening years later in Boruto. Asuma’s final words were so effective and so important that the episode of Naruto Shippuden he dies in is literally titled “Last Words”.

2

“Naruto… You’re The Child Of Prophecy, I’m Sure Of It Now. I Leave The Rest To You. The Tale Of Jiraiya The Gallant. Now It’ll End A Bit Better, I Hope.”

Jiraiya’s Last Words

  • Died In: Chapter 382 (Manga) Episode 133 (Shippuden Anime)

Despite his eccentric personality and his perverted antics, Jiraiya the Gallant was an undeniable hero who felt like the protagonist of an ancient ninja legend. But, of course, he tragically met his end when he infiltrated Amegakure in order to collect information about Akatsuki and ended up facing their leader, Pain.

The villainous leader had the upper hand on Jiraiya and was sadly able to kill him, but not before the Sannin found out his real identity and deciphered the truth behind his confusing powers, which allowed him to leave a message on the back of his trusty toad friend, Fukusaku. With his dying breath, Jiraiya entrusted his good student Naruto to take down Pain, confirmed that he was the child of prophecy he spent most of his life looking for and died underwater with a delightful smile on his face. Needless to say, this was a glorious death for a glorious character, and his touching final words cemented it as one of the most emotional scenes in the entire series.

1

“Oh, Naruto, There’s So Much…Oh, So Much More…! There Are So Many Things I Wish I Had Time To Pass Onto You… So Much More I Want To Tell You! I Wish I Could Stay With You Longer! I Love You! Minato, I’m Sorry, I Used Up Your Time.”

Kushina Uzumaki’s Last Words

  • Died In: Chapter 504 (Manga) Episode 249 (Shippuden Anime)

There are many reasons the death of Naruto’s parents, Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki, is highly regarded as one of the most important and heartbreaking moments in the entire series, like the fact they sacrificed themselves for both their son and their village or that fans had previously spent literal decades asking how and why they had died. But the main reason this scene has become so legendary among Naruto fans is Kushina’s emotional dying speech.

During her tragic final moments, in which she was sealing the Nine-Tails alongside her husband, Kushina quickly gave her newborn son all the life-lessons she could, which was as endearing as it was sad, since she was not going to be able to see him grow up. But this already touching scene concludes with her final words, when she tells Naruto that she loves him and that she wishes she could stay with him longer. Furthermore, Minato was so moved by his wife that he didn’t really have much to say to their son while they both died. Kushina’s final words are not only the best in the series, but they’re one of the best pieces of dialogue that series’ creator Masashi Kishimoto has ever written.
