A New Genshin Impact Character's VA is Already Being Replaced

Summary

  • Ifa’s Japanese voice actor will be changed for his NPC debut in Genshin Impact’s Version 5.5.
  • Showtaro Morikubo, who had previously provided the voice for Ifa’s voice-only appearances, will be replaced by Junta Terashima.
  • Morikubo’s departure from the role has sparked speculation from fans about the prolific voice actor’s potential retirement.

A Genshin Impact character is seeing one of their voice actors being replaced before the character has even been officially revealed for release. The massively popular RPG from HoYoverse features a wide array of characters for players to meet, both as part of its sizable playable roster and including plenty of NPCs as well. The game’s playable cast continues to expand with each update, with the upcoming Version 5.5 adding two new characters in Varesa and Iansan. Now, however, one character is seeing a major change ahead of their official reveal.

While he has yet to officially appear in-game, Genshin Impact‘s Ifa has been the subject of plenty of rumors. Ifa was first mentioned as early as Version 5.0 within the RPG, with character voice-overs alluding to the member of the Flower-Feather Clan. Players also got the first chance to hear his voice during the next patch, with Ifa featured in a voice-only appearance during Version 5.1. A recent update from the developer, however, reveals that the voice players hear following his in-game NPC debut will be markedly different.

Genshin Impact is Replacing Ifa’s Japanese VA

The departure of Showtaro Morikubo from the role of Ifa will see an iconic Japanese voice actor leaving the RPG. Morikubo has worked within the anime and games industry as a voice actor for nearly three decades, with some of his most iconic roles coming with Naruto‘s Shikamaru Nara and Persona 4‘s Yosuke Hanamura. Morikubo leaving Genshin Impact, combined with his recently confirmed departure from Arknights, has even sparked speculation that the beloved voice actor may be planning to retire soon. Ifa’s new voice actor, Junta Terashima, is most known for roles like Boruto‘s Code and Inazuma Eleven‘s Hyoga Yukimura.

Ifa’s first in-game appearance within Genshin Impact is set to come during a jam-packed update with plenty of content on the way. Alongside the two previously-mentioned new playable characters, Version 5.5 will add the Great Volcano of Tollan as the game’s newest exploreable area. The update will also introduce several quality-of-life updates, enhancing everything from quest tracking to the game’s Artifact system. Genshin Impact fans should have lots to look forward to during Version 5.5 between new characters and new map updates.
