In a gaming era that feels saturated with cozy games and farming simulators, it’s rare for there to be one that stands out, especially in Early Access. Fields of Mistria does just that, though, with a charming aesthetic inspired by 90s shoujo manga and some much-needed quality of life mechanics that other similar games lack. Despite Fields of Mistria still being in Early Access, it offers players plenty to do, with over forty hours of content as of the March 2025 update.
Fields of Mistria takes place in Mistria, a small town that has recently been devastated by an earthquake. Mistria’s town leaders decide to give a plot of land to a newcomer in exchange for their help in rebuilding the town. The player answers the call for help and puts their farm’s income back into the town, while also assisting with repairs and other errands. All the while, Mistria is a place of deep and ancient magic, and the recent earthquake has awakened two opposing and powerful forces that the player must face.

What Fields of Mistria Offers in Early Access
Fields of Mistria‘s NPCs genuinely feel as if they’re alive and a part of a small-town community. Getting to know the inhabitants of Mistria, from the town leaders to the children, is great in itself. All the inhabitants of Mistria have unique personalities, and they are easily differentiated from one another. Beyond their identities, they also interact with one another more than NPCs in similar games. For example, the townsfolk gather at the inn on Friday nights, and there they play the Mistrian version of DnD, participate in a drawing and book club, and experiment with new drinks and desserts. Beyond Friday nights, the characters still talk to each other around town, making it feel like a real community and letting the player feel like a part of the group.
Aside from farming, building relationships, cooking, mining, fishing, foraging, and ranching, players can also experience an overarching storyline in Fields of Mistria, which has been expanded upon with the March update. Fields of Mistria includes a magic system that assists the player with farming, but it’s also tied to a storyline about the mysterious dragon statue found on the player’s farm. Mistria itself is home to many ruins of an ancient civilization that worshiped dragons, and uncovering the civilization, and its secrets, is tied to the mysteries of what lies inside the mines.
Fields of Mistria Launches in 2025
Fields of Mistria is still in Early Access, and so it still has notable features missing, including romances, festivals, and more story content. However, there are dozens of hours of content currently available, with dozens of recipes, crops, and animals, and up to level 80 of the mines to traverse. Designing and decorating the perfect farm is incredibly satisfying, and it takes time to do so, especially as each day is only 12 minutes long. Romance candidates have heart events of up to six hearts, and romance is hinted at, though commitment is not available yet.
NPC Studios has revealed in its roadmap that it intends to have romance candidates be eligible for marriage and children with eight and ten heart events. It also plans to add more festivals, mining levels, crops, farm animals, farm and home upgrades, cosmetics, recipes, town repair questline events, spells, mine biomes, museum sets, and additional town vendors. Presumably, these will be released either in the next major update or when Fields of Mistria officially launches later in 2025. While in Early Access, Fields of Mistria is only available on PC and Steam Deck.
