Battling an elite enemy and obtaining materials is something that Zenless Zone Zero players cannot avoid. Each playable character in the game requires materials from an elite enemy and a weekly boss. Grinding may be hard for some players, but a new mode was introduced in version 1.6 to accelerate the progress, called the Burnout Mode.
This mode is only available to certain bosses periodically, so it’s best if Proxies learn the rules of the Burnout Mode so they can plan on how to use their Battery beforehand. This article will explain what Burnout Mode is in Zenless Zone Zero and when it is available.

What Is Burnout In Zenless Zone Zero?
Burnout Mode in Zenless Zone Zero is a new mode that is only available for certain challenge targets in Expert Challenge. Proxies can consume double Battery Charge to earn double rewards from that stage by activating the toggle for Burnout Mode.
In normal mode, you will use 40 Battery Charge to get 5 materials from the stage. But in the Burnout Mode, you must use 80 Battery Charge in exchange for 10 materials. Aside from the toggle and rewards, the battle against the boss is the same as usual, as the Burnout Mode does not affect the difficulty of the challenge.
Proxies can battle the Expert Challenge by talking to Lyla in the HIA Club. Each enemy in the Expert Challenge drops a different item that can be used to increase an Agent’s Core Skill level, which is crucial for every playable character’s development.
When Is Burnout Available In Zenless Zone Zero?
The Burnout Mode is periodically available for specific challenge targets that match the current limited S-Rank Agent’s banner in Zenless Zone Zero. Once the current banner is over and refreshed to the next banner, the Burnout Mode will be transferred to another challenge target.
For example, Soldier 0 – Anby and Pulchra are the new characters of the first phase in version 1.6. Lumberjack is the enemy that drops materials for Soldier 0 – Anby, while Doppelganger – Jane’s material drop is for Pulchra. Thus, these two bosses in the Expert Challenge were given the Burnout Mode. Once the first phase banner ends and the next one comes, the Burnout Mode for Lumberjack and Doppelganger – Jane will be removed and given to the boss that drops the materials for the next S-Rank Agent.
Challenge targets with Burnout Mode will be moved to the most front of the Expert Challenge order so Proxies will immediately notice which boss has the current Burnout Mode.
The Expert Challenge shortcut under the Training tab in the Compendium also has a small Burnout icon for the current targets. However, the remaining time is not stated in the Compendium. You can only see the remaining time for the Burnout Mode in the respective challenge stage at the bottom left. Before entering the battle, check how many materials you need and whether you need to activate the Burnout Mode. If you only need a small amount of materials, deactivate the Burnout Mode toggle so as not to waste your Battery Charge in Zenless Zone Zero.
