When Wednesday season 2 premieres on Netflix sometime in 2025, fans will be reminded of how well Jenna Ortega plays the bitter and funny Goth teenager. Although the hit show is a great introduction to the actress, she’s been in Hollywood since she was a kid. However, there’s no doubt that her work as Wednesday Addams is what she’s best known for, especially since she says so many memorable and quotable lines about not fitting in, getting even with people who have wronged her, and solving the mystery of the Hyde Monster.
Ortega’s long list of impressive parts includes cool drummer Skye Willow in the 2022 Foo Fighters horror movie Studio 666 and horror fan Tara Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream 6. Ortega also appeared in a crime thriller that was released in 2023 and might have been overlooked by her large fanbase.

Wednesday season 2 will premiere on Netflix later in 2025, and besides playing Wednesday Addams again, Jenna Ortega will appear in a thriller, too.
Jenna Ortega Starred In The 2023 Crime Thriller Movie Finestkind
Jenna Ortega starred in a few horror movies and some memorable TV shows such as You season 4, but a crime thriller isn’t her usual genre. That’s what makes her turn as Mabel in the 2023 crime thriller Finestkind so compelling. Ortega’s character is a dealer who meets Charlie (Toby Wallace), who gets swept up in his brother Tom’s (Ben Foster) life. When Charlie goes out on the boat with scallop fisherman Tom and his crew members, chaos isn’t far behind. Mabel and Charlie’s dynamic shifts as the movie goes on, and Ortega is excellent as a mysterious character who may or may not be trustworthy.
Taylor Sheridan, the co-creator of the beloved TV drama Yellowstone, was a producer on Finestkind, and the other cast members include Tommy Lee Jones, Tim Daly, and Ismael Cruz Córdova.
Like the upcoming crime thriller Neighborhood Watch starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jack Quaid, Finestkind is an intriguing movie thanks to the relationships between the main characters. While it has plenty of shocking, big moments, and a huge twist changes everything near the beginning of the film, it also focuses on quiet character moments. Mabel and Charlie are figuring out who they are and what they want, and Ortega does a great job as a harsh character who isn’t entirely likable. Ortega has made a career out of starring in dark stories, from Wednesday to X, and Finestkind is another showcase for her talent.
Although Ortega has talked about her other more high-profile roles more than Mabel in Finestkind, she told Forbes that she enjoys and “appreciates” her acting career. She also talked about experiencing personal growth and applying that to her work. She said:
“You just always want to learn and always want to grow and always want to be better, and I find myself doing that every year.”
While it has been a long wait for Wednesday season 2, Ortega’s fans are definitely excited to see her acting chops again. In the past few years, since Wednesday season 1 premiered on Netflix in November 2022, Ortega has starred in Scream 6, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and the upcoming Death of a Unicorn. She has explored many different kinds of characters beyond Wednesday Addams, but no matter what, she grabs everyone’s attention when she’s on screen.
Brian Helgeland, the director of Finestkind, praised the star’s performance and work ethic. According to Deadline, Helgeland mentioned how professional child star Emily Browning is, and said of Ortega:
“Jenna is the same way. A lot of work goes into that. She does a lot of prep and thinking about it on her own. When she (Jenna) was up (on camera), I’d say ‘Get the Navy SEAL in here. We need our Navy SEAL.’ She arrives, two takes and you’re done.”
Where Can Fans Stream Finestkind?
Wednesday and Jenna Ortega fans can stream Finestkind on Paramount+ or rent it on AppleTV. Finestkind only has a 28% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the reviews aren’t positive. However, it’s interesting to see Ortega stretch herself creatively and appear in a crime movie.
Ortega’s fans can also watch her other 2023 movies: the drama Miller’s Girl and the slasher sequel Scream 6. Although Tara Carpenter isn’t the main character in Scream 6 and some would argue she should have been, it’s still fun seeing where Tara is after her first fight with Ghostface.

I Don’t Want Tyler To Be The Wednesday Season 2 Villain
Tyler Galpin is coming back for Wednesday season 2, and I think Hunter Doohan’s Hyde Monster character needs a more positive storyline.
