Helldivers 2 fans got an item marked off their wish lists back in December when a drivable vehicle was added to the third-person shooter. Alongside the arrival of the Illuminate, Helldivers 2 brought forth the M-102 FRV, and it was immediately a game-changer.
Ever since Helldivers 2 launched in early 2024, players have been hoping for more vehicle options. Mechs were introduced first, and while that was a fun addition, a more traditional vehicle was also desired. The M-102 FRV is a great example of Helldivers 2‘s continuous evolution, and hopefully there are even more vehicles on the horizon. As vehicles become more common in Helldivers 2, the game has the perfect opportunity to introduce a new map centered around the use of those Stratagems.

Helldivers 2’s Vehicles Could Open the Door to More Intense Maps
Expanding Super Earth’s Fight For Managed Democracy
- FRV stands for “Fast Recon Vehicle.”
- The M-102 FRV holds up to five Helldivers.
As more vehicles become available to players, developer Arrowhead Game Studios has the perfect excuse to kick the game’s map sizes up a notch. Instead of a map built primarily to be traversed on foot, designing a new location that is catered specifically to vehicles could present a game-changing experience. In place of running across the terrain of planets, Helldivers can band together to drive around the map killing Terminids, the Illuminate, Automatons, or whatever a fourth Helldivers 2 faction happens to be.
The M-102 FRV is an exciting shake-up to the game’s usual formula, and its versatility makes it very valuable on the battlefield. Being able to carry five Helldivers is a huge upside of the vehicle, and there is the chance that an even larger type could be introduced somewhere down the line. Whether it’s a five-seater or a ten-seater, the thought of groups of Helldivers zooming across an expanded map, blasting away at enemies, is thrilling. Helldivers 2 was even supposed to originally have five-person squads instead of four. If Arrowhead Game Studios decided to take a risk and embrace a five-person squad, it could make vehicles like the M-102 FRV that much more exciting on a larger map, since a bigger squad could ride together.
The M-102 FRV is useful on the battlefield, but it doesn’t have unlimited fuel. When using the vehicle, it can hold up to 60 liters of fuel.
A Bigger Map Also Means Bigger Challenges
- More enemy numbers
- More objectives
- Longer missions
A larger map would have to be met with changes that help balance out a new size, and things like increased enemy numbers and lengthier missions could help achieve such a balance. The game may be a hit, but there are still plenty of ways that Helldivers 2 can improve its already-strong features.
Maps that are focused on vehicular combat could be the perfect way to amp up the game’s chaos. Helldivers 2 can be a harrowing experience, especially when first starting out, and adding even more difficulty to the mix may be the best way to up the game’s thrill factor.

When the tires on the M-102 FRV get damaged, the vehicle begins to lose traction. It can still be driven, even if all tires are destroyed, but it’s incredibly difficult.
There’s no telling what all Helldivers 2 has in store for players as the year continues. The arrival of the Illuminate and the shocking destruction of Angel’s Venture after a failed Major Order kicked the year off with a huge bang. It’s clear that nothing is off limits moving forward, so Helldivers will need as much equipment as possible. It’s unclear what this equipment will be, but it feels likely that another vehicle is destined to be in the cards.
