Summary
- Pokemon has revealed a new range of genuine Italian leather accessories.
- The Pokemon featured in the new range are Umbreon, Pikachu, and Ditto.
- Deck boxes are the headline items, but the collection also includes purses, wallets, and cardholders.
Despite having been around for almost 30 years, The Pokemon Company has an impressive ability to keep creating truly unique merch. The latest example of that is a newly revealed range of official Pokemon products made of genuine Italian leather, the highlights of the collection being its three deck boxes.
While Pikachu is one of the three Pokemon starring in this new collection – you might not like it, but that is and probably always will be how it has to be – the Electric-type’s co-stars are welcome surprises. Ditto also has its own range of officially licensed leather goods, and so does Umbreon. If I’ve learned anything about Pokemon merch over the years, the Umbreon stuff will be the first to go.

PokeJungle has shared an image of the whole collection which appears to feature deck boxes, purses, wallets, and cardholders, in each of the three designs. All of the Pikachu items are a pale yellow, Ditto’s are pink, and Umbreon’s are, of course, black. Beyond all of the accessories being the same color as their corresponding Pokemon, everything also has a small gold version of that Pokemon incorporated into its design.

Those Umbreon Deck Boxes Will Be Snapped Up Fast
Now for the bad news. As is almost always the case with new Pokemon merch, this collection will be, for now at least, exclusively available in Japan when the items are added to the Japanese Pokemon Center next week on March 22. However, if the items are popular enough, and I imagine they will be – particularly the deck boxes – then it’s likely, almost inevitable, that they will eventually be available at the US Pokemon Center and other parts of the world.
There will be ways to buy items from the collection and have them shipped, of course, but it will cost significantly more than waiting and hoping they’re eventually available in the US.
It’s probably advised that you wait for them to release outside of Japan as the MSRP, even without the shipping costs, is pretty steep. 14,300 yen each for the deck boxes which equates to about $97. Pokemon prices are usually bumped up a bit when products leave Japan, so the boxes could cost north of $100 each from the Pokemon Center if and when they’re released elsewhere.
Thankfully, the new Japan-exclusive sweet support plushes revealed last week won’t cost nearly as much. Four more designs that each included a Pokemon and their smaller counterpart hugging each other have been revealed, and they’re adorable.
