Developer Nexon has released the Season 2, Episode 2 update, Beyond The Void, for The First Descendant, adding plenty of new content, including a new main story, a new Descendant named Serena, a new growth system, and more. This major update for The First Descendant also introduces a new Fellow and new events for players to participate in.

The First Descendant launched in 2024 and, despite regular content updates and support, has struggled to improve its “mixed” rating on Steam. The free-to-play third-person looter shooter has faced criticism for its heavy microtransaction system, with some labeling the game as “generic.” Nevertheless, the game has found some success and maintains a solid player base. Now, the developer is rolling out a major update for players.

Within a year of its launch, The First Descendant announces it is set to pull the plug on certain ports of the looter shooter game.

Continuing with Nexon’s steady support for The First Descendant, the developer is now bringing “Beyond The Void” to players, an update that adds a wealth of new content. The highlight of the Season 2, Episode 2 update, is a new main story that picks up after the destruction of the Ironheart in the Fortress region. During the mission, players will encounter Serena, a new Descendant who will join their ranks. Nexon promises that Episode 2 will “enrich the lore” with “powerful cinematic storytelling.”

Serena is a firearm-based DPS who can fight enemies while flying. This new character in The First Descendant brings an interesting mix of fire-element skills, like Scared Flame, along with utility skills like Redemption, which allows her to remove allies’ debuffs, grant damage reduction, and recover their HP and stamina. In addition to the new character, the update introduces a new field called Sigma Sector, which includes two new matchmaking areas. Players can take on these fields in either Normal or High-Risk difficulties.

Moreover, a new growth system, the Arche Tuning system, has been introduced, enabling players to optimize their Descendants’ builds. To gain EXP for the new system, players need to tackle Infiltration Operations at 400% difficulty, Void Vessel Hard Difficulty, Void Erosion Purge, and Sigma Sector.

Players also have a new companion, the Vespers Hunting Dog, a new Fellow added in the Beyond The Void update. The Retriever features default auto-loop, ammo replenishment, and more. The update also fine-tunes Fellow Hagios Sheepdog, adding new weapons, an updated photo mode, and more. The First Descendant update Season 2, Episode 2 is already live, and players can install and try out all the new additions Nexon has brought to the game.
