Author Stephen King is, without a doubt, one of the most popular and well-known writers in the world. As many horror fans will already be aware, King has penned a slew of books over his many years in the business. From The Shining, IT, and The Green Mile, King has firmly cemented himself as one of the greatest horror writers, with many of his novels getting the adaptation treatment. Although not always sticking to the horror genre, King has also jumped into suspense, crime, science fiction, fantasy, and mystery.
Not only does he enjoy nothing more than penning great story arcs for movies and TV shows, but King also loves to spend his time watching as many as possible. Recently, King revealed that his number one scary movie of all time that left him in “helpless terror” when he first saw it was Night of the Living Dead. Anyone who follows King on social media will know that he loves to give brief reviews of the shows and films he watches, even the ones he isn’t particularly fond of as well, and most recently, King sang the praises of one highly-rated and popular horror movie that came out this year.

Stephen King Gives the 2025 Horror Movie Companion a Positive Review
Over on Threads, Stephen King rated director Drew Hancock’s science fiction horror film Companion fairly highly. King stated that Companion is a “totally fine horror/science fiction movie,” and also found it very funny. However, the author said that he wished he had seen it in the cinema rather than watching it at home on Prime Video. For those who haven’t seen it yet and want to avoid major spoilers, Companion revolves around a couple who head off to a lakehouse with some friends, but, as expected, things are far from an idyllic fairytale. Iris, played by Sophie Turner, finds out that she isn’t what she thought she was, and her boyfriend, played by Jack Quaid, isn’t either, and the weekend break turns very violent.
On Rotten Tomatoes, reviews for Companion have been high, coming in at 94% by critics and 89% by audiences. Upon first reading King’s mini-review, some might think that his “totally fine” statement might have been that he didn’t completely enjoy it, but since he wanted to watch it in the cinema instead, maybe this was where his reservations lay, and he wanted to experience it on the big screen instead. For anyone who appreciates King’s opinion, it certainly seems like he has given the 2025 horror movie his official seal of approval.
As for King’s long list of adaptations, another one is seemingly on the way. Netflix has made a deal to adapt King’s 1981 book Cujo, which tells the story of a dog who turns into a killer canine after being bitten by a bat, into a feature film, with producer Roy Lee in line to helm the project. It certainly is a busy time to be King.
