During the May 13 Silent Hill Transmission, Konami showcased a brand-new reveal trailer for Silent Hill f and took a closer look at the behind-the-scenes development process with a number of key creatives. Silent Hill game series producer Motoi Okamoto, franchise composer Akira Yamaoka, and Silent Hill f story writer Ryukishi07 shared information on the choice of 1960s Japan as the new setting for the game, inspirations for the music and creatures designs, and central theme of “find the beauty in terror.” It was revealed that Silent Hill f takes place in a fictional city called Ebisugaoka, which was inspired by Kanayama, Geru in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, and is the hometown of protagonist Hinako. Ebisugaoka has become engulfed in a fog and overrun with grotesque monsters, and Hinako must fight her way through the terrors, solve challenging puzzles, and battle her own psyche, before facing a horrible ultimatum.

Combining the classic psychological horrors of the Silent Hill franchise with an unexpected Japanese setting, Silent Hill f looks to bring the core elements of Silent Hill to players in a new way. The familiar Otherworld replaces its traditional chain-link fencing and barbed wire with overgrown flowers and animalistic tendrils, and deformed monsters bring the terrors of Japanese horror to life. According to Ryukichi07, he included a number of mystery elements in the story of Silent Hill f, and he teased that fans may want to play the game multiple times to answer the questions they will no doubt have by the end of their first experience with the title. Okamoto and Yamaoka frequently reinforced the concept of “beauty in terror,” noting that the game will feel like a Silent Hill game while providing something entirely new for both veteran and first-time fans to enjoy.
Silent Hill f will be the first new launch in the iconic horror gaming franchise since 2012, and expectations for the upcoming release have been incredibly high.
