Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s trading got off to a catastrophic start. As soon as the mechanic launched, it was called “predatory and downright greedy,” leading the game’s developers to share that they were “actively looking into” changing things. Despite putting such rigid restrictions in place and warning players beforehand, cards were immediately sold on eBay for real money.

It’s Palkia’s world, and we’re just living in it.
Since its release, the trading mechanic has continued to truck along with its harsh requirements, and Space-Time Smackdown cards were just added to the trading pool. True to its word, however, DeNA has just confirmed that it will be making major changes to TCG Pocket’s trading, and it is already doing away with the newly released trade tokens.
“With These Changes We Hope That Trading Cards Between Players Will Be More Accessible”
In an announcement shared on social media, the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket team outlined its plans for making trading “more accessible and enjoyable”, starting with the removal of trade tokens.
It said: “Trade Tokens will be completely removed, and players will no longer need to exchange cards to obtain the currency required for trading. Instead, trading cards of three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarity will now require shinedust.“
The developers acknowledge the fact that splitting shinedust between flairs and trading could still make it difficult, so it is “looking into increasing the amount offered”.
Thankfully, for those who have been building up a mountain of trade tokens, it has been confirmed that once the new system goes live, they can be exchanged for shinedust.
Alongside these changes, the Pokemon Trading Card Pocket team has said it is looking into ways to incorporate trades for two-star cards and promos and that it plans to add a feature that allows you to “share the cards you’re interested in trading via the in-game trading function.”
These new changes are planned to take place by the end of autumn this year.
It’s a good sign for players that DeNA seems to be taking feedback seriously.
