Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Launch Final Gen 9 Starter Tera Raid

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Launch Final Gen 9 Starter Tera Raid

Summary

  • Quaquaval the Unrivaled is available in Seven-Star Tera Raid Dens until March 20.
  • Quaquaval follows Meowscarada and Skeledirge as Paldean Starters as Tera Raid Bosses.
  • Earn the Mightiest Mark after beating Quaquaval, being mindful of its hidden ability Moxie.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet pulled back the curtain on a new Seven-Star Tera Raid battle, as Quaquaval the Unrivaled is now available for trainers to face. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainers have approximately one week to battle and capture a level 100 Paldean starter that comes with a potent ability.

Known as the Dancer Pokemon, Quaquaval is the final evolution of Quaxly and Quaxwell, which evolves at level 36. Quaquaval is a Water and Fighting dual-type starter that has high physical attack and speed stats. Although other Water Pokemon like Blastoise and Swampert are known for their defenses, Quaquaval’s stats and move versatility are similar to Greninja and Samurott to some extent. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Quaquaval’s type combination makes it a solid pick against Steel, Fire, and Rock-type Pokemon, but it struggles against Electric attacks from various foes.

With the Skeledirge Tera Raid battle now ended, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainers have one final Paldean Starter to face as a raid boss. Nintendo announced on social media that Quaquaval the Unrivaled will appear in Seven-Star Tera Raid dens until Thursday, March 20, at 7:59 PM Eastern. The Dancer Pokemon has the Water-type as its Tera type and grants the Mightiest Mark to trainers who can beat it. Quaquaval the Unrivaled has Moxie as its hidden ability, which increases its already-high physical attack stat by one stage after knocking out an opponent.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Quaquaval Tera Raid Details (March 13 to 20, 2025)

  • Quaquaval the Unrivaled will appear in Seven-Star Tera Raid Dens from March 13 to 20.
  • Quaquaval follows Meowscarada and Skeledirge as Paldean Starters that became Tera Raid Bosses.
  • Pokemon trainers will earn the Mightiest Mark after beating Quaquaval.
  • The Dancer Pokemon’s hidden ability can be a problem if not dealt with quickly.

Additionally, Quaquaval’s moves reflect its reputation as a dancing duck Pokemon. According to Serebii.net, Quaquaval will use Bulk Up immediately at the start of the battle to boost its physical attack and defense stats. Quaquaval will regularly use Aqua Step, Brick Break, Brave Bird, and Ice Spinner to deal damage against various Pokemon types, and will put up a barrier after a few turns. Quaquaval will use Rain Dance shortly after to bolster its Aqua Step attack, and it will use Bulk Up one more time late into the raid.

Removing Quaquaval’s hidden ability with moves like Skill Swap and Gastro Acid will be crucial to success, as too many knockouts can cause the battle to snowball. Given that Brick Break removes Reflect and Light Screen, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainers can use moves like Iron Defense or Chilling Water to mitigate incoming damage instead.

Since Quaquaval has no Ground-type attacks, strong Electric Pokemon like Miraidon, Bellibolt, and Zekrom will be effective in beating the new Tera Raid battle. Only time will tell which strategies Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainers will use to defeat Quaquaval the Unrivaled.
