During the Shadows of the Past main quest in Avowed, players must complete three trials before proceeding to the next step. Each one will test the Envoy’s abilities, whether it’s the body or the mind.
The second trial has to be one of the trickiest ones to complete as it’s the trial of wisdom. There are no enemies to fight like in the first one, but players will be challenged to avoid many deadly traps and learn how to use their surroundings to their advantage.

How To Complete The Trial Of Wisdom In Avowed
The Trial of Wisdom is the second trial you need to complete in Avowed. It starts like usual, the branches disappear, revealing a door and players speak with a spirit to proceed. The trial can be split into three sections as each part takes place on a different level.
To reach the first part of the second trial, you need to cross the deadly waters. You can use an ice throwable to make a bridge or cast a simple ice spell to safely go to the other side.
Trial Of Wisdom – Part 1
The first part consists of a long passageway full of blades swinging in all directions. The first set of blades can be avoided once they all stick to one side. There will be a delay before the blades move, so run quickly to avoid being sliced.
From here, players can proceed normally while avoiding the rest of the blades, or take an easier shortcut by jumping left onto the platform. Burn the thorns using a throwable or a spell and proceed through the tunnel to return to the passageway. At this point, the Envoy has skipped most of the blades.
The final blades blocking the route are swinging horizontally. Wait until the top one swings out and then run to the other side. Climb the tree branch to reach another passageway full of traps.
Trial Of Wisdom – Part 2
The second part is filled with fire traps. Upon climbing the tree root, there will be four hidden log traps that will swing down once you step on the stones on the floor. Avoid them quickly and break the cracked wall to the side. Press the switch to disarm the fire column traps, but alas, there is still some fire to avoid.
Wait until the upper trap breath fire and then crawl under it to reach the other side. Repeat the same step and proceed forward to reach the third part of the trial.
Trial Of Wisdom – Part 3
After climbing the stairs, there should be cracked rocks hiding a secret in the ground. Destroy it and pass through it to reach a small platform. Activating the Essence Generator will stop the blade traps swinging from the ground and the nearby lever will significantly slow down the arrows shooting from the wall.
Finally, proceed up the stairs and use the switch to disarm the arrows so they stop damaging you while you are passing through the door, and then proceed forward to complete the trial of wisdom.
