If you want to pursue the most dangerous of ghosts in Phasmophobia and reap outstanding rewards for your efforts, then Challenge Mode is the best and most versatile option in the game. Each week you get plunged into different terrifying scenarios while facing off against your ghostly culprit, and some are more difficult than others.
One of those challenges in Phasmophobia is the Speedrun! challenge, and if you’re looking to conquer it for the achievement or overall progression, then you’ll need to know what to expect when the van drops you off.

What is Challenge Mode in Phasmophobia?
Challenge Mode is a unique weekly task in Phasmophobia that sends players on special investigations to specific map locations. The catch is that these investigations are usually no walk in the park. In fact, they can feature some of the most conceivably difficult scenarios in the game, shy of Apocalypse mode. They’re designed to test players’ skills to their limits when it comes to making the most of what equipment they’re given, handling the map they’re required to investigate, and braving all-around dangerous conditions to identify the ghost.
You can access Challenge Mode at any time by going to your Difficulty settings in the main menu, and it will be indicated as its own difficulty setting. Make sure to hit ‘Apply’ to set it up for your next investigation. After that, pivot over to the map location bulletin board and select the required map for the challenge (it does not do it automatically for you).
The challenge in question changes each week on Sunday, which is the game’s traditional weekly reset timer. Each challenge takes place on a different map, and must be done in full on that map to receive credit. Completing Challenge Mode provides you with a base reward of $5,000, along with any additional points you accrue during the investigation itself. For your investigation to qualify towards completion, you only need to correctly identify the ghost. The optional objectives are just that, optional.
Above all, you need to complete a total of three investigations in the Challenge Mode setting to receive the full $5,000 reward.
How to Complete Speedrun Challenge in Phasmophobia
The Speedrun! Challenge in Phasmophobia is actually one of the more balanced ones of the bunch, if not on the easier side compared to others, such as the Sanity Survival Challenge. The official description of the challenge in the difficulty settings reads, “Maybe you could start a timer, how quickly can you find this ghost’s identity?“. In essence, you’re encouraged to figure what the ghost is as quickly as possible, and thanks to the powerful tools you’re provided, that’s easily doable.
Speedrun Challenge Rules
As mentioned previously, this challenge favors the player and places plenty of advantages in your hands to achieve success. Whereas other challenges in the game like the Frostbitten challenge deprive you of vital tools and strand you in dangerous situations, the Speedrun! challenge keeps things far more manageable and players of almost any skill level can approach this one without worry.
First of all, you must complete this challenge on 6 Tanglewood Drive, which is one of the game’s smallest maps and arguably the easiest to learn in terms of its layout. As befitting its name, this challenge gives players a 150% boost to their movement speed (though stamina drain still applies), so it won’t take you long to navigate the house. For that matter, it also makes outrunning most ghosts during a hunt easier.
That’s especially important because one of the challenge’s few downsides is the severe lack of available hiding spaces. There will only be one or two (randomly generated) spots in the house for you to hide during a hunt, so you’ll want to locate and memorize those as soon as possible. If you’re not comfortable “kiting” a ghost around a safe area, hiding is always the better option.
The challenge will start with no doors open, which makes it significantly easier to detect where the ghost is based on that. The ghost is also far less likely to roam to different rooms/areas, or change its favorite room, so you won’t have to worry about chasing it or constantly moving your equipment. Even better, the fuse box is useable and automatically starts on, which is a rarity for challenges.
Lastly, the ghost will be incredibly active from the moment you enter the house, and events will happen often. This may seem scary at first, but it actually acts as goldmine of possibilities for evidence gathering. There’s nothing worse than a ghost that refuses to do anything around your equipment and gives nothing away in terms of its unique behavior, so this challenge gives you the means to figure out its identity very quickly.
Speedrun Challenge Loadout and Cursed Objects
If it wasn’t favorable enough already, the equipment loadout you’re given for the challenge is completely decked out with powerful Tier 3 equipment and nothing missing.
Your protection against and during hunts is top-of-the-line, with crucifixes powerful enough to withstand multiple hunt attempts from a wide range. You also have other valuable tools, such as black salt that slows down ghosts during hunts and incense that stuns and disorients even the scariest ghosts, allowing you to easily evade and escape hunts if needed.
All of your evidence-gathering equipment is strong enough to detect the evidence you need quickly, and the video cameras provide a crystal clear view wherever you need them. Also, since nothing is missing, you can pursue completing the optional objectives for extra points if you want. This is one of the few challenges in the game where that would be encouraged.
As for Cursed Objects, you’re given access to every single one during the investigation, from the Haunted Mirror to the Voodoo Doll. While using some of these carries considerable risk, and the flexible conditions of the challenge honestly don’t require using them, you can still protect yourself from consequences such as Cursed Hunts with a properly placed Tier 3 crucifix. Remember that if the ghost is lurking in the basement and your crucifix is in the front hallway, you won’t be protected if a hunt of any kind occurs.
Having all of these tools and advantageous conditions at your disposal makes the Speedrun! challenge a surprisingly easy one, so accrue as many points as you can during each investigation to reap maximum benefits.
