Things are about to get freaky all over again. Disney‘s hotly anticipated sequel to Freaky Friday finally has a teaser trailer that reveals what is going on this time around.
When Disney announced back in May 2023 that a belated sequel to the 2003 Freaky Friday remake was in production, fans who grew up with the beloved film were ecstatic. The Mouse House was never going to make a serious sequel to the smash hit without Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis on board, but once those two were signed on the dotted line, things got together in a hurry. A script by Jordan Weiss—whose writing credits include Dollface, Harley Quinn, and Sweethearts—was approved and beloved director Nisah Ganatra was snapped up to film the picture. In addition to directing features like Late Night and the High Note, Ganatra is one of the most prominent directors working in television today. Seriously, she’s worked on so many beloved shows over the past ten years: Transparent, Mr. Robot, Shameless, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Girls, and Fresh off the Boat are just a few, and that’s in addition to exec-producing series like You Me Her and Better Things. Booking Ganatra proved Disney means business with Freakier Friday. Now, fans are getting a glimpse at what’s to come.

The body-swapping shenanigans are back in full force, with Curtis and Lohan’s Tess and Anna Coleman joined by two newcomers this time around. Julia Butters stars as Anna’s daughter Harper and Sophia Hammons features as Anna’s boyfriend’s daughter Lily. In the trailer, it is revealed that Tess and Anna end up in Harper and Lily’s bodies and vice versa. As one would imagine, chaos ensues as the foursome must continue on living their lives while housed in the wrong bodies. Fridays don’t get much freakier than this.
The teaser—edited to Chappell Roan‘s hit single “Hot to Go!”—gives momentary glances at much of the cast and, to be fair, they should be showing off the cast that was pulled together for this sequel. Not only do Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Stephen Tobolowsky, Lucille Soong and Rosalind Chao all reprise their roles from the 2003 original, but beloved comedic actors Manny Jacinto and Vanessa Bayer join the cast as well. If that weren’t enough, Ryan Malgarini, Christina Vidal Mitchell, and Haley Hudson were all brought out of acting retirement to play their roles from the original too.
Add it all up, and Freakier Friday seems more like a labor of love than the majority of big-budget tentpoles Disney is putting out nowadays. It could all turn out to be a mess in the end, but casting director Randi Hiller and the executive producing team of Lohan, Curtis, Kristin Burr, and Andrew Gunn are clearly putting in the work and not resting on their laurels. Here’s hoping it all pays off in the end.
Freakier Friday currently has a theatrical release date of August 8, 2025.
