The first three Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster titles were released for mobile devices and PC in July 2021, with a collection featuring the first six games released for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in 2023. In September 2024, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection was released for Xbox Series X/S without warning during Microsoft’s presentation at the Tokyo Game Show.
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Surpasses Five Million Copies Sold
Following the success of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, fans of the franchise are eager to see other past games remade for current hardware. Rumors of a Final Fantasy 9 remake have continued to swirl since 2023, with the most recent leak claiming that the title won’t be released until 2026 or later. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake producer Masaaki Hayasaka recently stated that he would love to work on a Final Fantasy 6 remake, though the title’s original director, Yoshinori Kitase, claims that doing so in the same style as Final Fantasy 7 Remake would take about 20 years to complete.
Currently, franchise fans are awaiting news of the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy.
