Rumor: Early Nintendo Switch 2 Stock Data Leaks Online

Some early Switch 2 shipment data leaks online, suggesting that Nintendo’s next console could hit the store shelves sooner rather than later.

Ahead of the upcoming event, Bloomberg spoke with some analysts in an effort to narrow down some of the finer details of the Switch 2 launch. The resulting predictions are bittersweet, with multiple industry watchers forecasting that the Switch successor will be Nintendo’s most expensive console ever. Japan-based analyst Serkan Toto anticipates that the device will retail for at least $399, a 33% increase compared to the $299 Switch. UBS Securities analyst Yijia Zhai and Sanford C. Bernstein analyst Robin Zhu agree with this assessment, as does Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda. Macquarie Capital analyst Hiroshi Yamashina offered an even more pessimistic prediction, forecasting that the Switch 2 will retail for between $399 and $449.

Nintendo Switch 2 Will Reportedly Be Much Costlier To Produce Than Switch 1

The reasons for the expected price increase are multifold, with inflation being one widely cited factor. Significant hardware improvements that the Switch 2 is set to introduce will also make it costlier to produce than its predecessor. Yasuda anticipates that the Nvidia system-on-chip powering the upcoming console will cost Nintendo between $130 and $150. In contrast, Nvidia’s Tegra X1 chip used by the Switch is estimated to have cost around $80 per unit. As a result, Yasuda believes that even a $499 price tag isn’t out of the question.

U.S. Tariffs Unlikely to Keep Switch 2 Price Low

The Trump administration’s tariffs could additionally complicate the pricing situation in the United States. That notwithstanding, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa previously downplayed the Switch 2 tariff concerns, stating that the financial impact of any such tolls is likely to be minimal.

Nintendo Switch 2 Poised for the Biggest Console Launch Ever

Despite the price increase, many industry watchers expect that the Switch 2 will sell exceptionally well. Zhu projects that Nintendo is preparing for high demand by aiming to have between 6 and 8 million units available on launch day, which would make it the biggest console launch in the history of the gaming industry. The same analyst previously forecast that Nintendo will manufacture 20 million Switch 2 units in 2025. Speaking to Bloomberg in mid-March, Zhu predicted that the Switch successor is targeting a June 2025 release.
