The Anime Film Will Bring The Incredible Time Loop Story To Life
STUDIO 4°C Is The Animation Studio Working On The Project
All You Need Is Kill takes you on an extraterrestrial journey where our protagonist, Keiji Kiriya, has to fight in a war against a deadly alien race. Keiji is just like any other soldier fighting the war, but he somehow gets stuck in a time loop after dying on the battlefield. This cycle of “Death and Rebirth” allows Keiji to become a better fighter by learning from his previous mistakes. Keiji goes on to live on the same day multiple times but is unable to get past the ultimate barrier, no matter how many times he tries.
Fortunately, Keiji comes across Rita Vrataski (Full Metal Bitch), a female soldier who had experienced this same phenomenon before. So, the duo then works together to find a way to actually beat this mysterious extraterrestrial race while also making sure that Keiji doesn’t lose the ability of rebirth like Rita.
It’s definitely a unique story that can work incredibly well as an anime, and it seems like STUDIO 4°C will do a great job with the animation. The animation studio has previously worked on award-winning feature films like Tekkon Kinkreet and Mind Game. Kenichiro Akimoto, known for his work on Children of the Sea and Harmony, will be directing the upcoming anime film.
The Award-Winning Sci-Fi Story Already Has A Live-Action Adaptation
Edge of Tomorrow Was Based On Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s Light Novel
Most sci-fi fans are accustomed to the title ‘Edge of Tomorrow,‘ the Hollywood film starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. The live-action film was a huge financial success, and despite some minor criticism, the movie garnered impressive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. However, even fans who’ve watched the film don’t know that the concept of Edge of Tomorrow was based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s light novel. The live-action movie took some creative liberty, of course, but the core story was essentially the same. The story worked great in the live-action format, and it could very well work the same, if not better, in an anime adaptation.
Interestingly, Edge of Tomorrow was released in the same year when All You Need Is Kill got a manga adaptation. The manga was written by Ryosuke Takeuchi (Moriarty the Patriot), and Takeshi Obata (Death Note) worked as the illustrator. Honestly, it’s surprising that it took this long for All You Need Is Kill to get an anime adaptation. Anyway, it’s better late than never, and we certainly can’t wait to experience the visual spectacle of All You Need Is Kill anime when it releases worldwide. However, Warner Bros. Japan has yet to reveal details about the film’s release window and the cast.

Edge of Tomorrow by Hiroshi Sakurazaka (2014)
Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s All You Need Is Kill is the thriller that became the sci-fi movie The Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. It’s a high-concept examination of the fight to survive that sees devastating alien forces attack Earth, forcing Major William Cage to endlessly repeat his life and death as he attempts to save the planet. This is the source novel that inspired the imaginative film many hope will earn a sequel.
