For the past month, the official Barbie YouTube channel has gradually been adding the back catalogue of Barbie movies to the platform for fans to watch for free. With yesterday’s addition of the most recent movie 2025’s Barbie and Teresa: Recipe for Friendship, the films are now all available together for the first time.
The collection of official Barbie movies starts with 2001’s Barbie in the Nutcracker, and many of the early offerings are adaptations of existing fairytales like Rapunzel, A Christmas Carol, or The Three Musketeers. In recent years though, Barbie has branched out to more original stories. With that, she has also stepped back from the limelight, with her sister Skipper or friend Stacie acting as protagonist. Of course, Barbie’s name is always in the title. It’s just good branding.
Barbie Has A Surprisingly High Amount Of Movies
This was spotted by @ssefmun on Twitter, who posted a screenshot of the channel shortly after Barbie and Teresa was uploaded, completing the catalogue – at least for now. Barbie has at least one movie every year from 2001 to 2017, often putting out several a year. In 2017, Mattel shifted from the classic straight-to-VHS/DVD release route to drop Barbie movies on streaming platforms, and there was a three year break until 2020’s Barbie: Princess Adventure.
This was followed by two flicks in 2021 and again in 2022, before maintaining a rhythm of one a year through 2023-25. It remains to be seen if we’ll get any more Barbie this year or next, though there’s little reason to suspect we wouldn’t. More curious is whether future films will be added to YouTube as Barbie and Teresa was, or if there will be a delay in bringing them to the platform, if they ever arrive at all.
As it’s not part of the animated run, the Margot Robbie-led live action Barbie from 2023 is not included in this selection. As a global smash hit that dominated the box office with fans of all ages, it’s in a bit of different category to these childhood favourites. Aside from that though, it’s as complete a Barbie collection as you’ll ever see.
While Barbie has enjoyed success in the cinematic world, she is yet to make her mark on the video games, despite around 60 attempts at it. Infinity Nikki proves a Barbie-esque game can be successful, but we’re still waiting on Barbara Millicent Roberts to make the digital leap herself.
