Summary

  • Summon spectral cats with Appello Catus Amicus – cute familiars that vanish if neglected.
  • Stop time with Tempus Interruptus to handle tasks or rest – a powerful and fun spell.
  • Compel social interactions with Compello Acceptus, making friend-making magically easy.

The Sims 2: Apartment Life took inspiration from the magic system of The Sims while adding improvements that elevated the concept. Magic in The Sims 2 is divided into three categories: good, neutral, and evil. Alll spells belong under one of these categories, and only certain witches have access to certain spells.

Life is complicated, even when simulated.

Neutral spells can do things like tidy up while good spells can give blessings and boons. And, of course, evil spells can cause all sorts of problems. This new system added a ton of spells, but which are the best? Summon your cauldron and pull out those spell books – these are the best spells in The Sims 2.

Appello Catus Amicus

Summon Cats At Will

A good witch plays with her familiar.

If there’s anything almost everyone likes, it’s cats. Cats are cute, clever, and complete jerks. Cats are also associated with witches, which makes this spell a godsend for Sim witches. If you’d like to have your very own familiar, cast Appello Catus Amicus. Spectral cats can be nicknamed, and can serve as a companion to witches.

They can learn tricks, although they can’t get jobs, and they don’t require as much attention as non-spectral pets. In fact, they will just vanish if their needs get too low. Resummoning them will take care of any issues they have. Convenient!

9

Tempus Interruptus

Turn Back Time

A good witch stops time.

This spell isn’t all that useful- but it sure is powerful. To date Tempus Interruptus is one of the most creative spells ever added to the franchise. This spell will stop time for all but witches and familiars. Witch Sims can walk around frozen lots past still Sims and unusable electronics. Time itself won’t pass as witches handle whatever they need to.

This could be useful for resting before work, learning skills before a deadline, or getting other needs up – or just to say that you’ve done it. After all, stopping time is no small feat.

Compello Acceptus

How To Make Friends And Influence People

A good witch talks to a friend.

It might not be the nicest way to make a friend, but Compello Acceptus sure does come in handy. This spell compels other Sims to accept the next five social interactions the witch has with them.

This can be especially useful for making friends, as each career requires a certain amount of friends to get promoted. It can also be helpful for things like dinner with the Headmaster or trying to schmooze the boss. Compello Acceptus makes making friends almost magically easy.

7

Tabula Rasa

Lost In The Memories

An evil witch casts a spell.

Who doesn’t have a few memories they’d rather forget? Tabula Rasa can help get rid of those nasty regrets…but it comes at a price. Tabula Rasa erases ALL memories, and all relationships. Sims that are cursed by this spell will become total blank slates. No wonder this spell is considered an evil spell…

This might be useful for resetting relationships between Sims, but it seems cruel even by this series’s standards (where setting Sims on fire is considered fun.) Only the most wicked of witches would dare use Tabula Rasa. Will you dare?

6

Appello Servantus

Hey Do This

A good witch looks at her servant.

Who needs to do chores when you have magic? Appello Servantus is an upgraded version of an earlier spell from The Sims where Sims could summon an unseen spirit to clean up the lot for them.

This servant, which is basically a set of witch’s clothes just wandering around, will clean up all sorts of messes from errant puddles to dirty dishes. A more malignant spirit can even fight Sims if summoned by an evil witch.

You’re A Heartbreaker

An evil witch casts a spell on a woman,

This particularly nasty little spell can turn domestic bliss into domestic horror with only a twist of a wand. Extractum Amorus allows an evil witch to destroy the feelings of love a Sim has for another Sim.

The Sims 2: All Expansions, Ranked

Second in the series, first in many players’ hearts, The Sims 2 had some fantastic expansions.

The worst part about Extractum Amorus is that it only removes the love on one side of a relationship at a time. A Sim could wander up to their spouse to hold their hands and have them recoil in horror, their spouse having been extracted by a spell. This spell is excellent at causing drama, and can be used for both fun and revenge by witches evil enough to learn it.

4

Vivificus Zombiae

Wake The Dead

An evil witch sits next to a zombie.

If your wicked witches are looking to be ‘helpful’, Vivificus Zombiae is the perfect spell. This spell returns a deceased Sim to life… as a member of the undead. Zombies are monstrous versions of their former selves – they take on a new personality, develop a rotten skin tone, and start to shamble around groaning.

Zombies are still fully playable, and can do things like hold jobs and get married, but they are forever cursed by their unholy status. They will even think about brains from time to time. Vivificus Zombiae is one of two ways to obtain zombie Sims, and it is certainly the nastier way to create one.

3

Magus Mutatio

The Witch’s Path

An evil witch looks at another evil witch.

If you’re looking to make a coven of witches, this is the spell you need to know. This spell is the only way Sims can become witches. Creating a witch requires convincing an NPC witch to cast it on them through friendship. Once you have a playable witch, they can cast this spell on others.

Remember: some Sims will not like this, especially if they aren’t Knowledge Sims (most Sims don’t enjoy becoming any occult state, period). If you cast it on Sims who aren’t interested, their relationship will take a hit and the new witch will have a negative memory.

2

Benemodus Simae

Manage The Motives

A good witch casts a spell.

While not as hard as it was in The Sims, keeping up motives in The Sims 2 can be difficult (especially for pregnant Sims). Benemodus Simae is one of the kindest things a good witch can do for their loved ones. This spell increases the motives of whoever it is cast on.

Elevate your neighborhood by adding these plots.

While it is convenient for saving time, this spell can also save lives. A starving Sim can be rescued with the flick of a wand, preventing death and destruction from claiming their lives.

1

Expello Mortis

Stopping Death Itself

A good witch dispells the Grim Reaper from a dying sim.

Only one other spell is more powerful than the motives-related spell, and this is Expello Mortis. Sims who master this spell have the ability to cheat Death himself. Casting this spell on the Grim Reaper will banish him from the lot, allowing the dying Sim to be saved.

While this spell might be hard to keep on hand, any good witch who wishes to protect their family might want to study hard to learn it. You never know when you’ll need it.
