Space Marine 2 PTS lets you test the next update’s Inferno Pistol right now

The Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 PTS has arrived, and you can get an early look at some of the big beats of patch 7.0 right now. The new public test server lets anyone dive in and try the next Space Marine 2 update either solo or in multiplayer. To start with, Saber Interactive is trialling its upcoming overhaul, which includes a new PvE map, adjustments to weapon restrictions and perks, PvP matchmaking improvements, and a new secondary weapon, the iconic 40k Inferno Pistol.

With Space Marine 2 rising the ranks of Steam’s most-played chart at launch, it’s earned itself a worthy spot as one of the best Warhammer 40k games in years. Saber has continued to build on that launch with regular updates, and its next one, patch 7.0, introduces quite a few changes that you’ll be able to try (for the most part) by jumping into the PTS.

At the top of the list are PvE prestige ranks and a new map, Exfiltration. While you can experience the majority of this level on the test server, you won’t see the final boss fight. Instead, upon reaching the climactic encounter, you’ll be pulled out to the victory screen and the standard end-of-mission proceedings.

Restrictions on weapon classes in PvE have been lifted slightly, allowing you to pick up more of the strongest Space Marine 2 guns on your chosen loadout, and improved matchmaking means you’ll be less likely to be paired with someone else that’s running the same class as you. Over on the PvP side, matchmaking has also been bolstered for better team balancing, and there’s a new custom PvP lobby feature.

Across both PvE and PvP, the Inferno Pistol is available as a new secondary weapon. You’ll also get to test out the redesigned weapon perks. While it might not boast a big effective range, it’s traditionally pretty capable of punching through most armor types, so it’ll be interesting to see how well it performs as a backup option to complement your Space Marine 2 build.

The PTS also introduces cloth coloring for the Bulwark class, and the general option to color your suit’s hands separately from the arms. Head to the Armoring Hall and you’ll find two more hues to test out: Voluptuous Pink and Thousand Sons Blue. Saber notes that the Space Wolves chapter pack and Imperial Fist champion pack are both present in the PTS build but aren’t playable.

The Space Marine 2 PTS is available now to all players. If you want to join, simply find the game in your Steam library and look for the ‘Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 – Public Test Server’ listed underneath it. The test instance is not tied to the base game, so your current progression will not be affected by time spent on the PTS.

If you’re just looking to toy around with the base game more, try some of the best Space Marine 2 mods – just remember that they aren’t allowed in public online sessions. Alternatively, grab your friends for more of the best co-op games on PC in 2025.
