Summary
- Multiple legacy characters returning in Scream 7, including Dewey Riley, Stu Macher, and Gale Weathers.
- Speculation of multiple Ghostface killers in Scream 7 with a large cast, introducing new suspense and unpredictability.
- Roman Bridger as the only single Ghostface in Scream 3, sparking curiosity about the new Ghostface’s motive in Scream 7.
While seeing Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) again was my biggest wish for Scream 7, the next entry in the horror franchise surprised me by casting several more legacy characters. Now David Arquette is bringing back Dewey Riley, Matthew Lillard is reprising his silly Stu Macher character, and, thankfully, Courteney Cox’s sarcastic and smart reporter Gale Weathers will join the slasher story, too. Several more cast members have been announced in the past few months, including Live with Kelly and Mark co-host Mark Consuelos.
Since Scream 7 has been filming since the start of 2025, it might seem like the casting announcements would slow down soon. However, even more actors are either playing Ghostface or figuring out how to escape them. As reported by Bloody Disgusting, Jimmy Tatro and Michelle Randolph were cast in Scream 7. Since Scream 7 has such a large cast, I think one idea about Ghostface could become reality.

I Wonder If Scream 7’s Large Cast Means Three Or Four Ghostfaces
For a while, Scream fans have wondered if Scream 7 could feature a Ghostface cult or if there could be several Ghostface killers. I thought perhaps there could be one or two Ghosfaces, but now that there have been so many cast announcements, I’m certain there will be more than two Ghostface killers.
I don’t think any of the returning legacy cast members are Ghostface, and I’m eliminating them from the list of suspects. However, several new cast members could be playing Ghostface, from Ethan Embry’s new character to Anna Camp to younger cast members such as Mckenna Grace. Although I do think that Scream 7 could have a high kill count, since Mason Gooding said it’s “gory,” I’m not sure that every new actor joining the movie is a victim. If four new characters worked as a Ghostface team, that would still leave plenty of victims.
Since Sidney and the other characters always know each Ghostface, and in some cases, are close to them, I’m sure it would work to have more than one Ghostface this time around. Maybe Sidney, who is living in a new small town, trusts her neighbors, friends, and coworkers, then realizes several people in her life have been stalking her this entire time, and it’s almost too late. Or maybe she learns that there are people at her kids’ school who she doesn’t actually know like she assumed she did.
I would love to see a mix of younger and newer characters working together as Ghostface. Although this has been done before, most recently in Scream 6 when Detective Wayne Bailey (Dermot Mulroney) and his children Ethan Landry (Jack Champion) and Quinn Bailey (Liana Liberato) are Ghostfaces, it would still feel unique. I also wonder if new Ghostfaces could team up with one past Ghostface who is still alive. Since so many dead characters are returning, it seems possible that Scream 7 will reveal that one of them has been alive this whole time. Since fans wonder if Scream 7 is too messy now, audiences are looking for novelty, and this would be cool to see.
Has The Scream Franchise Ever Had One Ghostface?
Scream 3 is the only movie in the slasher franchise with one Ghostface killer, and that’s Roman Bridger (Scott Foley), who is reprising his role in Scream 7. Roman is upset because Maureen Prescott was his mother and Sidney Prescott is his half-sibling, and he’s envious because of Sidney’s happy family and successful life. Since Roman hides in plain sight as the director of Stab 3: Return to Woodsboro, I was surprised that he was Ghostface, and I think it was a great reveal. I also like that Roman works in Hollywood and seems to have nothing to do with Sidney’s hometown of Woodsboro, California. But, of course, he is more connected to her than audiences realized.
Roman’s reappearance has made fans wonder about the Scream 7 Ghostface’s motive. Could the new Ghostface, or several Ghostfaces, have something to do with the first Scream movie? While it seems unlikely that Roman would be the new Ghostface since he died, fans are eager to find out more.
