- The new and returning talented cast excites fans, aiming to save the show’s reputation.
The Dexter: Resurrection cast added an actor from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The A-list cast’s newest addition was welcomed by one of their co-stars with a photo of the two of them together.
Dexter: Resurrection marks Michael C. Hall’s return as the eponymous serial killer for the second time. The Dexter: New Blood miniseries attempted to provide a more satisfying ending to Dexter Morgan’s story following the original Dexter show’s widely panned series finale. However, the Dexter: New Blood ending didn’t fare much better with fans, prompting showrunner Clyde Phillips to retcon the miniseries’ finale, which concluded with Dexter being fatally shot by his teenage son and exposed as the true “Bay Harbor Butcher.” Now, Dexter: Resurrection will continue the story, and the series is assembling a cast filled with A-list names, with the latest addition coming from the DC universe.

Paramount announced that The Suicide Squad actor David Dastmalchian joined the Dexter: Resurrection cast. Dastmalchian joins Dexter: Resurrection in the guest-starring role of Gareth, though no further details on his character were provided. Fellow Dexter: Resurrection cast member Krysten Ritter welcomed Dastmalchian to the team by sharing a photo of the two actors on Instagram. “Goth fam says hi – having a killer time with @dastmalchian,” Ritter wrote in the caption, suggesting their characters will share the screen.
Who Else is in the Dexter: Resurrection Cast?
Ritter joins Dexter: Resurrection as renowned sommelier Mia Lapierre, who reportedly hides a “serial killer secret.” Other newcomers to the Dexter franchise include Uma Thurman as Charley, the head of security for a billionaire philanthropist played by Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, Neil Patrick Harris as a character named Lowell, and Eric Stonestreet as Al, who is believed to be a serial killer. There are a handful of returning favorites as well. David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott reprise their respective roles as Angel Batista, Harry Morgan (Dexter’s deceased father who appears as the personification of Dexter’s inner monologue), and Harrison. Unfortunately, Jennifer Carpenter won’t return as Debra Morgan in Dexter: Resurrection, as the actress said she’s “completed that box.”
Dastmalchian has developed a reputation for playing ‘creepy’ characters (for lack of a better term) with roles like Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad, Thomas Schiff in The Dark Knight, and Bob Taylor in Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, to name a few. So, it would be understandable if fans assumed he’s joining Dexter: Resurrection as a serial killer who may or may not find themselves on Dexter’s table. However, Dastmalchian has demonstrated his range with comedic and dramatic roles like Kurt in the Ant-Man films, William L. Borden in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and Jack Delroy in Late Night with the Devil. Therefore, Dastmalchian may play a role fans won’t expect.
While some fans question the need for another Dexter series, others argue Dexter: Resurrection could save the once-praised series from a reputation stained by weaker later seasons and two failed finales. With a talented cast of newcomers and familiar faces, Dexter: Resurrection certainly has fans’ attention, which Paramount and Showtime undoubtedly hope will translate into ratings.
Dexter: Resurrection is scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2025 on Paramount Plus with Showtime.
