- Rainbow Six Siege is channeling mobas in its newest game mode, Dual Front.
- The casual game mode allows respawning, operator changes, and focuses on team strategy in 6v6 matches.
- It’ll be a casual mode availiable to free players.
Rainbow Six Siege is introducing a brand-new permanent game mode, and it flips some of its most engrained mechanics on their head.
In Dual Fronts, you’ll be free to pick from a pool of both defender and attacker operators, as you fight for control across two distinct lanes.
Coming as part of the larger Rainbow Six Siege X update, which will also see the game go free-to-play, Dual Fronts shares a lot of its identity with MOBAs. It has a similar lane-based design, and forces your team to pick between pushing on one lane, defending on another, or going for extra missions in the central, neutral zone for an advantage.
A Slightly Moba-y Take On Rainbow Six Siege
The goal of each map is to plant hacking devices in each of the opposing team’s zones. Successfully clearing the first point opens up the next one, forcing you to venture further into their territory as the game goes on. In general, matches last around 20 minutes.
More than just a big map, though, Dual Fronts is changing up key parts of Rainbow Six Siege. Instead of being five-on-five, it is six-on-six (with the lobby system being expanded to support six people). Respawning and changing your operator mid-game are enabled, so you’re free to experiment with each character and tailor your team to your opponents. As mentioned, it also allows your team to freely pick from both sides, with defenders and attackers playing on the same team.
Not every operator will be playable in Dual Front, with the roster of characters rotating each month. The same updates will also see regular tweaks and changes made to the mode’s larger map, adding new areas and closing off existing ones to keep things fresh.
Dual Front is going to be a casual game mode, meaning it’ll be available for those on the new free-to-play tier. In fact, with the freedom to change operators and respawn, it feels as though this will be one of the easiest ways to learn the basics of Rainbow Six Siege before heading into its more intimidating five-on-five modes.
Ubisoft has yet to confirm exactly when the X update, and Dual Front will be coming, but you’ll be able to play it for free when it does.
