In The Sims 4: Businesses and Hobbies expansion pack, the Pottery skill is introduced, offering a creative outlet for Sims who love crafting. For entrepreneurial Sims, Pottery opens up the opportunity to start and manage their own pottery studio. Items crafted can be sold for profit, with higher-quality creations fetching more Simoleons. It’s a perfect choice for artistic Sims looking to

combine passion with business
in the Businesses and Hobbies expansion. Here’s everything players need to know about how to obtain this skill and what to do with it.

How to Improve Pottery Skill

How to Improve Pottery Skill ts4

The Pottery Skill is quite easy to improve, thanks to several useful objects introduced with the expansion. Among the

new build/buy objects
, both molding ceramic designs on a Pottery Wheel and glazing them at the Pottery Kiln can help Sims develop this skill. Since molding ceramics takes more time, players will notice the most significant improvement through this activity. However, as molding costs Simoleons, players looking for a more cost-effective method and aiming to sell their creations should prioritize glazing every crafted object as well.

Additionally, if Sims have access to a Lump of Clay in their inventory, molding this item will also contribute to improving the Pottery Skill. The standard skill-building methods are effective too—Sims can purchase skill books or

attend skill classes
in suitable locations. It’s worth noting that Sims

being mentored by another Sim
for Pottery (an option available through the Pottery Wheel) will improve their skill even faster.

Pottery Skill Levels and Perks

Leveling up the Pottery Skill primarily allows Sims to unlock new ceramic objects to craft as they advance. Most notably, at level 7, Sims gain the ability to repair broken clay items and transform them into Kintsugi-inspired pieces, adding a beautiful and unique touch to damaged objects. By reaching level 10, they can apply an unbreakable coating glaze on top of decorative glazing, offering extra durability for their creations if desired, since otherwise they can simply break through various means such as pets, or mischevious Sims. However, progression does not unlock additional decorative glazing options. Items previously repaired with Kintsugi can sill be glazed with unbreakable coatic afterwards.

Unlike the Tattooing Skill
, which directly impacts service fees, the Pottery Skill has minimal influence on the sale price of crafted items. Instead, Sims with higher Pottery levels have the potential to create higher-quality objects, which can sell for more Simoleons. Additionally, certain levels unlock new social interactions—for example, at level 5, Sims can mentor others in Pottery, fostering their growth in this craft.

Some of the items Sims can craft, such as vases, pots, burners, and tea sets, are functional as well as decorative, making the Pottery Skill a versatile choice for creative players. There are a total of 10 decorative glazing options and 14 items that can be crafted.
