If there’s one thing that fans know was extremely important in One Piece, it is most likely the existence of the Harley texts, and with it, the reveal of the existence of many gods of the world. The Earth God is a prominent figure, and its true identity could potentially have been revealed by Oda already.
The Harley And The Earth God In One Piece
- The Sacred Text Harley Explains The Existence Of The Earth God
- The Earth God Rampaged And Destroyed The World
The existence of the Harley Texts was brought up quite early in One Piece’s Elbaf arc, specifically when the Straw Hat Pirates started their party with the Giants of the country. These Giants were shown to absolutely worship Nika, although every Giant believes in a different kind of Nika. Some believe Nika to be the Warrior of Liberation, while others think he’s a bringer of destruction, and some even believe that Nika is the ruler of the world. Nobody is truly sure, and much of the confusion stems from Harley and the many misinterpretations over the years. The Harley is a sacred text that has been passed down in Elbaf for generations now, and it tells the world myth. According to the Harley, the world of One Piece has been destroyed twice already, and the Harley foretells the tale of the Third World. Here’s what the Harley states:
First World
Flames engulfed the land, and humans succumbed to their desires, touching the forbidden Sun. The enslaved prayed, and the Sun God appeared. The Earth God was enraged, and together with the serpent of infernal flames, shrouded the world in death and darkness. They would never meet again.
Second World
Breath stirred within the void, and the Forest God sent forth demons. The Sun did nothing but spread the fires of war. The people of the half-moon dreamed, the people of the full-moon dreamed. Humans slew the Sun and became Gods, and the Sea God raged. They Would never meet again.
Third World
In chaos, there is void. The troubled shadow remembers the promised day, and hears the voice of the fractured moon. The Sun God dances and laughs, leading the world to its end. The sun will return once more, and a new dawn will arrive. Surely, this time, they will meet again.

One Piece: Oda Has Already Revealed Dragon’s Devil Fruit
Oda has secretly revealed the true nature of Dragon’s Devil Fruit in the One Piece series.
The Harley is quite complex to decipher fully, and there are many interpretations of it out already, including our own. However, not all of it is relevant here. When speaking of the Earth God, fans know that one particular world is important and that’s the First World. In the First World, the planet seems to have been very advanced, and at the same time, there seems to have been an abundance of flame, or Motherflame. To harness its powers, slavery ran rampant on earth, and the slaves wished for the existence of Sun God Nika to free them from chains. Nika descends upon the world and the Earth God is furious. Together, with the Serpent of Hellfire, the Earth God destroys the world. This very Earth God is what’s important here.
That’s why I think this must all be some child’s dream. — Ripley
When looking at the Elbaf mural, it is quite clear to see that the two massive creatures attack a single ship that resembles the Ark Maxim. One of them is the Serpent of Hellfire, while the other is the Earth God, most likely. Based on this interpretation, the Earth God must be a dragon.
The Earth God’s Connection To Imu In One Piece
Imu And The Earth God Have The Same Appearance
When it comes to the Gods of the One Piece world, it is no surprise to know that there exist Devil Fruits of them. If the Earth God existed in the First World, there is no denying the idea that it manifested as a Devil Fruit, just like that of the Sun God Nika. The Earth God’s power likely belongs to Imu. This is simply because the creature that spits fire resembles Imu a lot. Fans have seen a small glimpse of Imu from long ago in the Reverie arc, and it is clear that he possesses some sort of Zoan power. The creature itself is silhouetted, but it most definitely resembles the creature that attempts to destroy the world with the Serpent of Hellfire.
The only one our blades can’t pierce is the serpent soaked in blood. — Dorry and Brogy
More than that, the left side of the Harley mural tells the tale of the Third World, which means that it is a prediction of the battle that is yet to come. In this mural, Imu can clearly be seen and it is quite apparent that Imu looks like a dragon in hybrid form. The dragon horns, the scales on the back, and the wings are a dead giveaway. In fact, the fact is that Imu looks exactly like the dragon that destroyed the world with the Serpent of Hellfire in the First World, only here, he looks like he’s in his hybrid form.
Elbaf Shows Nidhoggr Might Be The Earth God And Imu’s Power
Imu Could Have The Nidhoggr Devil Fruit
In One Piece chapter 1142, Oda confirmed the existence of a legendary dragon in the mythology of the One Piece world that is strong enough to destroy the world, and this dragon is none other than the Nidhoggr. It was brought to life as a nightmare of a child using Sommers’s ability. Looking at the design of the Nidhoggr and comparing it to the dragon from the mural, they fully match. The horns are drawn in the exact same way, as are the scales, along with the massive wings. Being a dragon, this one is also capable of spitting fire. If the Earth God and Imu truly have the same power, then fans already have their answer as to what Imu’s ability is, and the answer to the question is the Nidhoggr dragon. This would also be fitting, as Imu is the highest of Celestial Dragons, who are quite clearly obsessed with dragons in one way or another. It would be fitting for the strongest of them to be a dragon itself.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1143, is set to be March 23, 2025.
