New Pokemon GO Quest is Easier for Rural Players to Complete

Summary

  • Getting a shiny Meloetta in Pokemon GO is challenging for players in urban areas due to a specific task.
  • Urban players struggle with earning a bronze Showcase Star medal at PokeStop Showcases.
  • Rural players find the PokeStop Showcase task easier due to less competition.

One new Quest in Pokemon GO is actually easier for players living in rural areas than for city dwellers, which is a sharp contrast to how the augmented reality game usually functions. While obtaining a Shiny Meloetta through the latest set of challenges in Pokemon GO doesn’t entirely favor rural players, there is one particular challenge that is causing a hang-up specifically for those in heavily populated areas.

Getting a Meloetta in Pokemon GO has been possible since 2021, when its Aria Forme was released through the Finding Your Voice Special Research tasks that were introduced during Pokemon GO Fest. However, the initial launch did not allow Meloetta to appear as a shiny Pokemon. Instead, the shiny version of Aria Forme Meloetta was only added to the game a few weeks ago as part of the Pokemon GO Tour, and players must purchase tickets to participate in Masterwork Research to unlock this legendary Pokemon’s shiny form.

One particular Masterwork Research task that’s been causing problems specifically for urban players is the requirement that they earn a bronze Showcase Star medal in any of Pokemon GO‘s PokeStop Showcases. Originally introduced as part of Pokemon GO‘s seventh anniversary celebration in 2023, PokeStop Showcases allow players to leave a specific Pokemon behind at PokeStops denoted by a special symbol spinning above them. At the end of the countdown timer on that showcase, the player who has placed the largest Pokemon of that type there will earn rewards, including medals of increasing rarity for repeated wins.

Pokemon GO Research Task Finally Favors Rural Players

The gap in difficulty between rural and urban players that this task presents are highlighted through discussions on online platforms like Reddit. Many rural players have responded to complaints about this research task by pointing out that a bronze Showcase Star medal only requires players to have won a single showcase, which they feel shouldn’t be too difficult a task to pull off. But others have pointed out something that left many players in less populated areas surprised: PokeStop Showcases can actually become full and not allow any more Pokemon to be entered, and in big cities, they tend to fill up fast. After years of complaints from rural Pokemon GO players that the game is tilted in favor of players in high-density areas, some see this research task as a form of justice being served.

Still, while some players in areas like New York City are struggling, other city-dwellers who have managed to pull off PokeStop Showcase wins have offered some advice. The easiest seems to be finding a way to get to a less-populated area for a while and look for a showcase there. If that’s not possible, some players have suggested finding a PokeStop Showcase that requires one of Pokemon GO‘s evolved Pokemon, since those showcases tend not to fill up as quickly.
