Sadie Sink, of Stranger Things fame, will reportedly be joining the MCU and has been cast in a role in Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man movie. Even though Marvel is yet to confirm the news, comic book fans have been busy trying to figure out who Sink might portray, and there are more theories than you might think.
Sources revealed to Deadline on Wednesday that Sink has been cast in a Spidey 4 role, but stopped short of revealing who exactly she’ll be playing. Based on stories told by others cast in prominent roles in the MCU, it honestly wouldn’t surprise me to find out Sink herself doesn’t even know yet. However, the leading theory among fans is that Sink has been cast to play Jean Grey.

It’s no secret that the X-Men are slowly being incorporated into the MCU. While Hugh Jackman was given the chance to reprise the role of Wolverine, it seems likely the fellow mutants will be portrayed by a new generation of actors. One of them might well be Sink, and thanks to the actor’s red hair, Jean is the X-Man many have immediately jumped to when joining the Marvel dots.

But What Will That Role Be?
Since Sink will be making her MCU debut in a Spider-Man movie, others have pointed to characters within the Spider-Verse the Stranger Things star might play. Gwen Stacey is a popular pick and even though most likely picture the character with blonde hair, she has had red hair in the past. Sink being cast as Gwen might also further indicate the introduction of more Spider-People following a breadcrumb left in the most recent episode of Daredevil: Born Again.
There’s also the possibility that Sink has been brought in to play Marvel’s most famous redhead of all – Mary Jane. Yes, I know, the MCU already has an MJ, played by Zendaya. However, Zendaya is Michelle Jones, not the better known Mary Jane Watson. We’re also in an MCU era where variants are being pulled from across the multiverse, so there could be multiple MJs in Spider-Man 4.
Deeper cuts from the Marvel comics suggested for Sink include Firestar, a lesser-known Spidey hero, and Harriet Osborn, the gender flipped version of Harry Osborn. Basically any female character with red hair who has ever appeared in a Marvel comic is on the table according to fans. Spider-Man 4 is currently slated to be released between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, hitting theaters in 2026 and 2027 respectively, so it might be a while before we find out who exactly Sink is going to be.
