Summary
- More details about a second Lord of the Rings set potentially releasing this summer have leaked.
- The Gandalf vs. Durin’s Bane Book Nook set will reportedly be 1,201 pieces and launch this June.
- It will potentially kickstart an all new Lego range of sets designed to be displayed between books on shelves.
Despite it still not cropping up on Lego‘s website, leaks have all but confirmed we will be getting a Lord of the Rings Lego set based on The Shire this year. However, a rumor suggests that Lego might be ready to break its one LOTR set per year rule with new details about a second set from Middle-earth gaining momentum.
According to thebrickreporter, a Gandalf vs. Durin’s Bane (the Balrog the wizard battles in The Fellowship of the Ring) set will be released this June. Rumors about this set have been swirling since last year, however, this appears to be the first time a piece count has been quoted. The rumored LOTR set will reportedly be 1,201 pieces, making it the smallest set from Tolkien’s fantastical world during its current Lego run.
Even smaller than the upcoming Shire set which is rumored to clock in at a little more than 2,000 pieces.
Prior rumors about the Gandalf and Balrog set have claimed it will potentially kick off a whole new range of Lego sets. It’s reportedly described as a book nook which implies the set has been designed to sit neatly on your bookshelf, potentially between books. I’m guessing Lego’s intention is that those who buy it will display it in between or alongside copies of The Lord of the Rings books.
The Shire Might Not Be The Only Lord Of The Rings Lego Set Coming In 2025
Give Me The Balrog Book Nook, And Give It To Me Now
If the Gandalf vs. Durin’s Bane set is real, it won’t only be the smallest LOTR set of the modern era, but it will almost certainly be the cheapest. With The Shire set still not officially revealed, as it stands you will need to part with at least $460 if you want to own some Lord of the Rings Lego. That will get you the massive toy brick recreation of Barad-dur with 2023’s Rivendell set costing even more at $500.

As Lego’s The Lord Of The Rings sets potentially get cheaper, spare a thought for Star Wars fans. The only Lego rumor gaining more traction than the ones about LOTR sets right now is the one about a potential new Lego Death Star. If the rumors are true – and they’re becoming gradually more concrete – Lego will be releasing a $1,000 Death Star this October. Not only will it be the most expensive Lego set ever, but it’s also rumored to include more Minifigures than any set to have come before it with 40 characters from a galaxy far, far away set to be a part of it.
